Our Three Predictions For Middlesbrough vs Leeds United:

  • First Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Leeds United: Match Result – Middlesbrough – 17/5
  • Second Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Leeds United: Over 2.5 Goals – 3/4
  • Third Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Leeds United: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 18/25

First Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Leeds United: Match Result – Middlesbrough – 17/5

Recent form suggests only one winner in this contest. Leeds will require an almighty performance to get three points, but away from home, that has been tougher to achieve this season. The Whites eight victories on the road is bettered by four sides, including the top two who have won twelve each. Middlesbrough have won exactly half of their twenty Championship games at the Riverside this term, splitting the remaining ten equally between draws and defeats. They have though won three in a row on home soil, moving them up to tenth spot in the standings in the home table. They should be confident of adding a fourth win in succession in this monumental second tier clash on Tuesday night.

Second Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Leeds United: Over 2.5 Goals – 3/4

Boro’s home record in both boxes is pretty average for the division, and is a fair reflection of their positioning in the home table. Only seven sides though have netted more than their 29, winning their last three home encounters all by a single goal margin. They have actually scored more away from home, with Leeds ranking second in that department with 30 goals. The top four of the Championship all have the best defence on the road too, in the same order as the table. Expect a few goals on Tuesday evening.

Third Prediction For Middlesbrough vs Leeds United: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 18/25

Only three times in 2025 have Boro failed to net in a league game, despite their indifferent form in February. For Leeds, that figure is one fewer, failing to score only once since their goalless draw at Burnley at the end of January. While Leeds did kick off early on Saturday, Boro were the first to play in this gameweek, so should be slight fresher ahead of this game. Although previous meetings aren’t the best way to gauge scoring, the past four meetings have seen one side score at least three. Three of them games have seen both score too, with a seven goal thriller ending in favour of the Whites twelve months ago. A similar enthralling game in midweek wouldn’t go amiss.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Middlesbrough watched with delight on Saturday afternoon as they retained their place in the top six following Friday’s win at Blackburn. Only Bristol City were able to match their result of the sides chasing a spot in the Play-Offs, though Millwall leapfrogged several sides to move up to ninth. The two sides who began the game week in fifth and sixth, Coventry and West Brom, both lost in the lunchtime kick offs to Burnley and Sunderland respectively. Four other sides who also had a chance to close the gap also lost on an almost perfect weekend for Michael Carrick’s side.

Boro have now won three of their last four and five in seven, losing only once in that period. Any chance of a top six finish looked well beyond them following five defeats in a row earlier this year. But a win at Stoke, followed by a victory against Derby, raised hopes, only to lose at Swansea. Frustrations again arose when a home win over QPR was followed by a stalemate against Luton, in which they were fortunate not to lose. But back-to-back weekend wins over Oxford and Rovers have seen them climb into fifth place in the Championship.

The pressure has cranked up on Leeds after dropping out of the top two. Despite dropping points at Kenilworth Road against Luton, the Whites actually gained a point on Sheffield United after the Blades were surprisingly beaten at Oxford. But Burnley’s success in the lunchtime kick off against Coventry, coupled with the other results, saw them move to the top of the division and continue their 27 game unbeaten run.

It continues a disastrous spells for Daniel Farke’s side, who had looked certain for promotion six weeks ago following incredible late victories over Sunderland and Sheffield United. But since their vital win at Bramall Lane, Leeds have won just once in six, drawing four times. Their latest stalemate against Luton was their third in a row, though it came without Illan Messier after Farke dropped the Frenchman in place of Karl Darlow

All three sides in contention for the two automatic promotion places in the Championship play on Tuesday evening. Burnley face a trip to Derby, while Millwall are the visitors to Bramall Lane to play Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United. For Leeds, the fixture list appears to ease after their midweek clash, facing Preston next weekend. Easter throws up meetings with two sides looking to avoid exiting in the second tier in the wrong direction, Oxford and Stoke, before Play-Off chasers Bristol City visit Elland Road. That fixture is after both of their promotion rivals have played on the penultimate matchday of the campaign, before Leeds travel to Plymouth on the final day.

For Boro, their fans will be keeping tabs on Bristol City vs West Brom on Tuesday evening, knowing that at least one of their Play-Off rivals will drop points. 24 hours later, Coventry face Portsmouth. Middlesbrough will be hoping to kill off Millwall’s chances of a top six berth when they travel to the capital next Saturday. Over Easter weekend, Plymouth make the long journey to the North East before Boro head down the A1 to Sheffield Wednesday. Norwich await on the penultimate weekend of the season before a potentially pivotal final day clash with recent foes Coventry City.

Leeds have the greater head-to-head record in this contest, winning ten more meetings than Middlesbrough since first playing 99 years ago. Five of the last six have ended in their favour, though Boro did knock them out of the League Cup with a convincing three nil win back in August. The Whites got revenge though in the league meeting, putting three past the Teessiders in a comfortable victory.
