Our Three Predictions for Watford vs Plymouth Argyle

  • First Prediction: Watford to win – 57/100
  • Second Prediction: Over 2.5 goals scored – 9/10
  • Third Prediction: Both teams to score – no – 3/4ย

First Prediction for Watford vs Plymouth Argyle – Watford to win – 57/100

Although this prediction sounds obvious, it’s hard to see bottom of the league, Plymouth Argyle, who have only won one game away in the league this season, coming to Vicarage Road and leaving with even one point. Themselves, alongside fellow strugglers Luton Town, have the joint-worst away record in the division, only picking up eight points on the road. Miron Muslic has managed to turn the sinking ship around a little bit, however, they may not have enough to survive in the Championship, considering their extremely hard run of fixtures at the business end of the season. This run starts with Watford, who have the eighth-best home record in the second tier and will be looking for three points, which could potentially push them into the play-off mix. There is a reason why the away side are bottom of the league, and that is simply that they’ve not been good enough throughout the season. It would come as no shock to many if Watford were to take all three points on Saturday.ย

Second Prediction for Watford vs Plymouth Argyle – Over 2.5 goals to be scored – 9/10

On top of the fact that Plymouth are sitting at the bottom of the league, they also have the worst record in terms of goals conceded by a whopping 15 goals. They have conceded 77 goals in 38 matches, and have an average of 2.03 goals conceded per game. Watford, on the other hand, score more and concede fewer than their opponents, scoring 47 goals and conceding 51. On average, the Hornets score 1.24 goals per game and let in 1.34 goals per game. Argyle have conceded two or more goals on 21 occasions this season. Watford have scored two goals or more on 11 occasions this season. In their two encounters this season, there have been goals: Watford won 2-0 in the Carabao Cup, and the league match ended in a 2-2 draw. With the stats surrounding both sides’ attacking and defensive records, it would not be surprising to see over 2.5 goals scored.ย

Third Prediction for Watford vs Plymouth Argyle – Both teams to score – no – 3/4

However, despite the previous statistics, there’s one big factor that Plymouth struggle with, and that is scoring away from home. In the league, they’ve only scored eight times on the road, and two of those eight goals came in their first away win at the beginning of March. Those eight goals are divided into just four matches, meaning they’ve scored in only four of their last 19 away matches. In addition, the hosts also concede fewer at home, and have conceded 19 goals in 19 matches, which averages just a goal per game. Even though Watford’s defensive record isn’t the best, Plymouth do tend to struggle away from home, and their woes might continue away from home in this fixture.ย

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As mentioned above, both sides come into this clash not in form. Whilst the Hornets have won two of their last five, drawn one and lost two, Plymouth have only won once, losing the other four fixtures. However, since these games, both sides have had a two-week-long international break.

Three points could prove crucial to either side, for different reasons. Depending on other results from around the grounds, Argyle could potentially lift off the bottom of the table if they were to win this fixture, whilst their opponents could move a step closer towards the play-offs, which they are currently five points off.

Last season was the first time the sides had met in 13 years. They have faced each other four times in the last two years, three games coming in the Championship and one in the Carabao Cup. Three of the four matches have ended level, with the hosts winning the remaining fixture.
