Our Three Predictions For Stockport County v Charlton Athletic

  • Prediction 1 – Match To End In A Draw – 11/5
  • Prediction 2 – Over 1.5 Goals Scored – 33/100
  • Prediction 3 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 17/20

First Prediction For Stockport County v Charlton Athletic – Match To End In A Draw – 11/5

Two teams trying to cement a playoff place at the very least, but also with an outside chance of making automatic promotion. Stockport County have stayed in touch with the leading pack all season, and are waiting to pounce on any slip ups by those just above them. They have built their season around strong home form, having won 11 games from 17 played at Edgeley Park, while only losing twice. Charlton come into this game with some inconsistent from on the road, having won six, and lost seven overall, and after a narrow 1-0 loss at Birmingham City, they beat playoff challengers Leyton Orient 2-1. With a lot to gain, but just as much to lose this could see only the fourth home draw for Stockport as both sides cancel each other out in their pursuit of all three points.

Second Prediction For Stockport County v Charlton Athletic – Over 1.5 Goals Scored – 33/100

There should be plenty of action around both teams goals in this match. County have scored 52 times, and Athletic, 46. Well above a goal a game average. When you break it down further, the home side has an edge with 29 goals scored in their home games, whereas Charlton have just 21 on their travels. They have though scored twice in their last four of five games, only being held without a goal in that loss at Birmingham, so their pursuit of promotion is not just a defensive effort. Having said that, they have let in 20 on the road, something that Stockport will be well aware of. The home side though do have a tendency to leak goals at home, and have conceded 17. This leads to a potential of a high scoring game, especially with what’s on the line for both.

Third Prediction For Stockport County v Charlton Athletic – Both Teams To Score – 17/20

Given the statistics that have been presented in our previous prediction, this should lead to an obvious answer that both teams will score. Let us throw in the fact that at home County have not been held scoreless since November 5, a 5-0 thrashing by Wycombe Wanderers. They did have a game without scoring soon after that in the EFL Trophy, but since then they average almost two goals a game when on home turf. Charlton are not as prolific away, but three straight wins overall have garnered six goals, again a two per game average. Both teams should find the net in this match, and both will find it hard to keep a clean sheet, making this a sound bet.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head

It does seem like Stockport County are just in the shadow of Wrexham these past few seasons. That would not be a bad thing should the Welsh side go up, and they ghost in behind them to gain promotion to the Championship. Of course, both sides could well end up in the playoffs. Dave Challinor is working his magic again and may have to rely on six goal Isaac Olaofe to add to his tally if they are to find joy in this match. They are steady at the back with Ethan Pye being ever present, alongside Callum Connolly and Lewis Bate, with the latter pair also chipping in with some valuable goals and assists. County’s home form does give them the slight edge, but their visitors will be at their best looking for a fourth win on the spin.

Nathan Jones is at it again, and could well be onto something with a Charlton Athletic side that is reaching its peak powers at the right time of the season. Three straight wins has them firmly in the promotion chatter, and even though automatic could be a little optimistic, there is no reason why this side cannot go all the way to Wembley and surprise one of the teams that have been leading the way all year. 10 goal Matty Gooden, at 33, is leading the Londoners scoring list, but Luke Berry, one year his junior, is very much a player to watch from midfield. Macauley Gillesphey has the most appearance’s for the club this season, and his presence at the back will be needed in the run in, as will the holding play of Conor Coventry, both very much the first names on Jones’ team sheet each week.
