Our 3 predictions for Rotherham United vs Leyton Orient
- 1st prediction: Leyton Orient to win
- 2nd prediction: Leyton Orient to score in both halves
- 3rd prediction: Both teams to score
1st prediction for Rotherham United vs Leyton Orient: Leyton Orient to win – 7/4
This is a fascinating match up; two teams who have entered difficult spells of form lately but with very difficult seasons on the whole. Leyton Orient started the season poorly, as they usually do, but have picked up since around November with a fantastic run which has given them a chance of the play-offs. They’ve suffered a bit of a blip though, with three losses on the bounce, though they were to Bolton, Birmingham and Charlton, which were to be expected. This game, however, represents the perfect chance to get on track again against a struggling Rotherham team. The Millers had a busy summer and many though they would be in with a chance of instant promotion, but they have found themselves in mid-table with not long of the season to go. The South Yorkshire side have lost four of their last six and though they have home advantage Leyton Orient will fancy themselves as favourites given their form and their opponent’s struggles.
2nd prediction for Rotherham United vs Leyton Orient: Leyton Orient to score in both halves – 7/2
This game will likely see goals from both sides, as the next prediction will explain. That being said, Leyton Orient will likely score more, and in both halves. They’re high scorers, with 50 goals in the league this season, and have managed to score even in tough games that they’ve lost in the last few weeks. Even against the likes of Bolton and Birmingham they represented themselves well, so the losses shouldn’t be too concerning. They’ll want to get out of the blocks quickly but with Rotherham likely to score under home advantage they may need another and a second half winner may be needed. With Rotherham’s struggles this season, they’ll be confident but not complacent, and this prediction again reflects their status as favourites.
3rd prediction for Rotherham United vs Leyton Orient: Both teams to score – 61/100
Despite their difficult spells of late, it’s easy to see goals in this one. Rotherham have struggled lately but are pretty good in front of goal. They’ll be confident on the attacking front having scored three at Bristol Rovers in their last game, with a great attacking line up on their day. Further to this they are the home side which is always an advantage, so they will want to play on the front foot. That being said, they will have to be careful they don’t leave too much at the back as a result of going forward, sue to the threat their opponents pose. Orient are great going forward despite their three recent losses, and have shown they can break down even the toughest defences as evidenced by their victory over Wrexham. As the away side here they may have less of the ball and may need a couple of goals to beat Rotherham but they are perfectly capable of thsi, with this potentially being the game for them to get back on form ahead of the run-in.

Full preview of the game: last results and head to head
This is a big game in League One; while there isn’t too much riding on it for Rotherham who have secured mid-table obscurity, it’s massive in Orient’s hopes off getting their play-off push back on track. Further to that, it’s a game both sides will look to use for momentum as they try and arrest tough runs.
Orient really struggled at the start of the season up until around November, but have excelled since. A great run has put them in touch of a play-off place, but a difficult spell recently has risked that. They come into this game off the back of three consecutive losses but they were games they were big underdogs in, and hasn’t detracted from the success of the season. Their most recent loss was against play-off rivals Charlton which will have hurt, but they still have time to put together a strong run to end the season.
Rotherham were expected to do better than they have this season, having come down from the Championship after a disastrous 2023-24 campaign. They’ve never really been in real danger but haven’t looked like challenging either, languishing in mid-table for most of the season. They’ve lost four of their last six though do have the confidence of a victory in their last match, a 3-2 win at strugglers Bristol Rovers.
In terms of this fixture’s history, it’s pretty interesting. Rotherham have won 9 of 20 meetings, with only three wins for Orient. The away side do have the advantage, though, of having won the reverse fixture 1-0 in October. You have to go back over a decade for the previous meeting before that, and plenty has changed since then. O’s fans will be hoping this midweek sees them complete the double over the Millers as they go for the play-offs.
