Two sides towards the top end of League One face off this weekend looking to further their promotion hopes as the season enters its final couple of months, with Wrexham hosting Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
Our 3 predictions for Wrexham vs Bolton Wanderers
- 1st prediction: Wrexham to win or draw
- 2nd prediction: Under 3.5 goals in the match
- 3rd prediction: Both teams to score
1st prediction for Wrexham vs Bolton Wanderers: Wrexham to win or draw – 1/4
This will be a great game with two quality sides facing off against each other with plenty to play for; Wrexham are pushing for automatic promotion for the third consecutive season while Bolton are looking to grab a play-off spot. Bolton’s form in particular is interesting, having won five of their last six under new boss Steven Schumacher and now looking like they could make the play-offs after previously languishing in mid-table. That being said, they are still underdogs here. Wrexham’s form recently is inconsistent but they are fantastic at home and extremely hard to beat; if they got a goal in front they will be very tough to break down. Ultimately, it’s Wrexham’s defence which is the basis of this prediction, with their home advantage they will have most of the ball and look to get in front. Once they’re in front they rarely lose, and while Bolton are doing well, this may be a stretch too far for them.
2nd prediction for Wrexham vs Bolton Wanderers: Under 3.5 goals in the game – 7/25
This game will likely see goals , and from both sides, but it won’t exactly be an extremely high scoring affair. Wrexham’s attack has been good but their defence has been even better, though it will get tested by a confident Bolton side who look like they could get at least one here. The Trotters have been fantastic of late and look good in front of goal, though this will be a huge test of their credentials. Wrexham would therefore have to attack more as a win here and results going their way could see them into the automatic promotion spots with not long left of the season. With these factors in mind, it’s going to be an entertaining game but without necessarily having a huge amount of attacking chances, especially if Wrexham get in front. If they do score first, they may sit back or Bolton may force them to go for more, in which case we’ll have an entertaining encounter on our hands.
3rd prediction for Wrexham vs Bolton Wanderers: Both teams to score – 61/100
These are two quality sides who are among the best in the league with outstanding squads, and in any given game you’d back them both to score. While Wrexham’s form has been a bit hit and miss recently, they know how to win football games and have made their home ground a fortress, which is always key to a successful season. They’ve got an array of attacking talent and will go into this game as favourites given their league position, so will look to attack accordingly. They’re also well regarded for their fantastic defence which makes them incredibly hard to beat especially at home, with their five at the back formation incredibly effective. It will however, be tested by a Bolton side who are resurgent and looking up the table towards the play-offs, so they will definitely have a go. Steven Schumacher has them playing exceptionally well at the moment and they have some fantastic players themselves. They’re underdogs here though, but with the way they are going you’d still back them to score.

Full preview of the game: last results and head to head
This is a huge game pitting together two teams who still have plenty to play for and needing a win to help fulfil their ambitions; Wrexham for a third straight promotion and Bolton for a spot in the play-offs..
Expectations of Wrexham were high going into this season but few expected them to be in the position they are, with a genuine chance of automatic promotion. A win here would be key to that end; if they win and Wycombe lose this weekend they would go into second. Their form, however, is inconsistent with a draw and a loss in their last five matches. This includes defeat in their last game, on penalties against Peterborough United in the Vertu Trophy.
Bolton’s form has been fantastic of late; they were struggling in mid-table under Ian Evatt but have gone from strength to strength since his dismissal, with Steven Schumacher guiding his side into play-off contention. They’ve won four of their last five in the league and won their last game 2-1 against play-off rivals Leyton Orient.
In terms of this fixture’s history, it’s pretty interesting. Bolton have won 9 of 15 ties, with Wrexham only winning twice. Crucially though, one of those wins was just weeks ago in the Vertu Trophy, where the Welsh side ran out 1-0 winners. The reverse league fixture was drawn 0-0, which indicates a very close game is ahead of us on Saturday.

Probable lineups for Wrexham vs Bolton Wanderers
This is an interesting game in terms of team selection. Wrexham come into this off the back of midweek disappointment in the Vertu Trophy and on inconsistent form, so they may shake things up.
