Our Three Predictions For Chesterfield vs Crewe Alexandra:

  • First Prediction For Chesterfield vs Crewe Alexandra: Match Result – Crewe Alexandra – 13/5
  • Second Prediction For Chesterfield vs Crewe Alexandra: Over 3.5 Goals – 23/10
  • Third Prediction For Chesterfield vs Crewe Alexandra: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 18/25

First Prediction For Chesterfield vs Crewe Alexandra: Match Result – Crewe Alexandra – 13/5

Crewe had a timely win at the weekend, putting three past Barrow, which means they begin March in the driving seat for seventh spot in League Two. But their form has been patchy prior to that, losing to Wimbledon by three goals to nil in February, as part of a three-game winless run away from Cheshire. The Alex are better on their home turf, but only marginally in terms of the divisional average. With the sixth-best away record in the fourth tier, losing just four games all season, Crewe should be confident of taking all three points. Chesterfield, meanwhile, have seen their aspirations of a top seven finish slip away from their grasp, but their home record is not the reason for that. They have won four of their past six on their own turf, but Crewe will be confident in inflicting a third home defeat on the Spireites come Saturday.

Second Prediction For Chesterfield vs Crewe Alexandra: Over 3.5 Goals – 23/10

Not only has Crewe’s form been patchy, but so has the amount of goals in their games. They may have netted three times last Saturday, but were scoreless in three prior outings. Quite remarkably, that tally against Bluebirds was as many goals as they managed in their past eight games combined. Chesterfield too have stalled in their scoring, only managing one in their past two games since putting five past Doncaster. They did put three goals past Bromley last month, scoring 49 across the whole campaign, which has them third in the divisional standings in that department. History also suggests this will be a high-scoring encounter, given that the previous game this season ended with five goals, all in the hosts’ favour.

Third Prediction For Chesterfield vs Crewe Alexandra: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 18/25

Chesterfield’s goalscoring abilities have been highlighted above, but their defensive capabilities are holding them back. Conceding 38 times may be average for the division, but that is what is stopping them from being a top half team. In each of the Alex’s past four games, only one team has found the back of the net, with three games ending with a scoreline of 3-0. On the road, Crewe are actually a tight outfit across all areas of the pitch, conceding and scoring in equal measure with fifteen. Only two sides in the fourth tier have had fewer goals in their games away from home than Crewe, but they should find the net in Derbyshire, along with their opponents.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Chesterfield may have just been promoted from the National League last term, but they set their aspirations higher, with a place in the top seven in mind. But they currently occupy fourteenth spot in the standings, ten points adrift of Crewe in seventh place. With a run of two wins in ten, they are falling ever further away, despite having two games in hand on many of the sides above them in the standings. It has been made more disappointing after the Spireites recorded a huge win against promotion-chasing Doncaster last month, showcasing their potential.

Two defeats since though, against Walsall and Swindon, have killed that momentum, also losing their only other February encounter against Cheltenham. January had been plagued by draws, with three games ending level across all competitions, including in the EFL Trophy tie against Rotherham before they bowed out on penalties. They also had stalemates versus Port Vale and Grimsby, triumphing against Bromley before January was out. In more positive news though, one of their leading performers, Armando Dobra has signed a new contract until 2027.

Crewe have improved optimism too, after putting three past Barrow without reply last weekend. Alexandra had suffered two defeats by the same scoreline in February, part of a six-game winless streak that had put their spot in the top seven in jeopardy. They were in contention for a place inside the automatic places earlier in the season, but those dreams appear unlikely given the current table and their form. It looks like one of three teams will fight it out for the final spot inside the top seven, barring an impressive run for a mid-table outfit.

Lee Bell’s side did have goal difference significantly in their favour until Newport and AFC Wimbledon beat them three-nil in consecutive games. Their other games this month ended level, with away stalemates at Harrogate and Gillingham. At the Mornflake Stadium, they had taken a point against the Wombles in January before their heavy loss against the same opposition quickly after. 2025 had begun in great form, scoring seven across their first two home games of the year against Carlisle and Bromley.

If history is anything to go by, which it often isn’t, then Chesterfield should be considered the favourites for this encounter. They have 42 wins, thirteen more than Crewe, with plenty of thrilling contests in recent years. Back in 2010, there was an incredible 5-5 draw, while both have scored five in heavy wins in the past eight years. In fact, the game earlier this year saw the Spireites win 5-0.
