This last 16 FA Cup tie is an intriguing one, as home form could well sway the tie in favour of Preston North End. They will though have to get past a seemingly unenterable defence of Burnley, who will try and take their Championship form into the match.Â
Our Three Predictions For Preston North End v Burnley
- Prediction 1 – Burnley To Win – 1/1
- Prediction 2 – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 3/2
- Prediction 3 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 21/20
First Prediction For Preston North End v Burnley – Burnley To Win – 1/1
Despite Preston North End having a decent home record of late, it is hard to see Burnley not winning this one, as they aim to keep momentum going from their Championship form. The FA Cup can throw up some surprises, and even though these two are in the same division, there has been a gulf in class so far this season. Burnley have a water tight defence, that was last penetrated in the early rounds of this competition back on January 11, and before then on December 12 in the league. This does not mean they will have it all their own way as the Cup is a different beast, but while their confidence of not conceding many, and still scoring goals to get wins to keep pace in the promotion race, the odds are very much in the visitors favour.Â
Second Prediction For Preston North End v Burnley – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 3/2
As said the Burnley defence is absolutely phenomenal at the moment, and it is hard for any team to score on them at this point. However, as also mentioned, the FA Cup can throw up some weird scenarios, and it is very possible that at this stage of the competition Preston North End will fancy their chances of advancing to the last eight, and them who knows what can happen with a favourable draw. At home Preston are a bit light on goals, but have scored 2-1 wins against Charlton Athletic in the last round, and Middlesbrough in the Championship in the last few weeks, they are unbeaten at home since the start of November and are averaging a goal a game in that time. Burnley have scored 17 times in 12 games away, since their last loss on the road.Â
Third Prediction For Preston North End v Burnley – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 21/20
Given both are enjoying good runs of form, Preston at home, and Burnley in general, it is hard to see both teams not scoring in the FA Cup tie. Form does go out the window somewhat, and a blank canvas can be drawn on with a place in the quarter finals at stake. Obviously Burnley will be very hard to break down, but Preston should be able to play without fear, and with some good home form to back them up they may well break the nine game run in all competitions that Burnley currently have without conceding. Of course, Burnley should not be too goal shy, and with the odds in their favour to advance, they will be good for at least one goal in this game.Â

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head
Preston North End manager Paul Heckingbottom will view this as a game that his side can win. The fact that Burnley don’t concede will not install to much fear, as he knows this is a great opportunity to make the last eight of the FA Cup, and with the draw opening up, it could be very favourable should they do so, and dreams of Wembley can begin. He will though probably need more than one goal, so Montenegro forward Milutin Osmajic will need to add to his tally of seven goals, and if he draws a blank, Sam Greenwood could add to his five. Together they could be the ones that surprise their visitors. Defensively they can rely on Welshman Andrew Hughes to help along a relative new back line, but they are showing signs of gelling already.Â
Scott Parker may have the priority of getting Burnley back into the Premier League, but what a fantastic chance he has in taking his side into the latter stages of the FA Cup. With one of the countries top defences, he must be confident of holding the host team in this tie, and having enough upfront to steal a victory. James Trafford is the ever-present goalkeeper, and his play between the sticks is the heart of a defence that is so solid. CJ Egan-Riley, Lucas Pires, and Maxime Esteve have taken the art of defending to new heights. Attack wise Dutch striker Zian Flemming has seven goals, and Tunisian midfielder Hannibal Mejbri will be the source of inspiration. Jaidon Anthony could well be the match winner though and his three goals and five assists may well be added to.Â
