Our Three Predictions For Watford vs Luton Town

  • First Prediction: Watford To Win – 13/10
  • Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – No – 17/20
  • Third Prediction: Under 2.5 Goals – 61/100

First Prediction For Watford vs Luton Town – Watford To Win – 13/10

Watford have spent the majority of the campaign in and around the play-off positions. However, recent form has been poot and they currently sit 10th in the Championship. However, the tight nature of the division means they are still only three points off the top six. The Hornets ended a five-game winless streak last weekend when they beat an out-of-form Middlesbrough. They will really fancy their chances of picking up back-to-back victories for the first time since November against a team currently sitting bottom of the league.

Luton have been the surprise package of the Championship for all the wrong reasons this season. Having fought admirably before suffering relegation from the Premier League last May, they were expected to launch a bid for promotion. However, it is looking increasingly likely that they will be plying their trade in League One next season. Matt Bloomfield replaced Rob Edwards at the helm last month, but he is still searching for his first win. In fact, the Hatters haven’t picked up three points since beating Derby County on December 20th, a run stretching 11 games.

Second Prediction For Watford vs Luton Town – Both Teams To Score – No – 17/20

Watford kept a clean sheet in their last outing with a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough. That was the third game from their last four which has seen just one team score, and they will be hoping to follow up the shutout against Boro with another here. Their last two league victories have been accompanied by clean sheets.

Luton are the joint lowest scorers in the Championship with 31 goals, a record only equalled by Stoke City. They have scored just twice in their last five fixtures, whilst they have only hit the net four times under Matt Bloomfield thus far. This has become a major issue for the Bedfordshire-based side, and one that they don’t look like solving any time soon.

Third Prediction For Watford vs Luton Town – Under 2.5 Goals – 61/100

With it hard to make a case for Luton scoring, the under 2.5 goal market looks tasty. Watford aren’t especially high scorers and haven’t scored more than twice in a single game since putting six past Sheffield Wednesday in November. Three of their last five games may have produced three goals, but this includes a 4-0 defeat against Leeds United and a 2-2 draw with Sunderland.

Luton may be struggling to buy a point but they are not a team that gets a thumping. Seven of their last eight defeats have seen them lose by just one goal, whilst their last five games have all produced two goals or less. Watford will be happy to take a narrow win in order to keep their play-off ambitions alive.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head

Watford once again had to deal with speculation surrounding the future of their manager last month. Although they eventually came out backing Tom Cleverley, there is little doubt that the uncertainty effected their results on the pitch. Five games without a win saw them slip into the bottom half of the table for the first time this season, but they recovered last weekend to secure a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough to move back into 10th. Their home form has been a concern though. They haven’t won at Vicarage Road since beating Portsmouth on Boxing Day. Cleverley’s side have lost their last five in front of their own supporters, but there will be a confidence they can end that run against the current worst team in the division.

Luton are looking more and more likely with each passing game to succumb to a second successive relegation. Although they picked up a point against Plymouth Argyle in their last fixture, they will feel that it was a missed opportunity against a team that are in a similar position to themselves. It was a real chance to secure a morale boosting win and the first of Matt Bloomfield’s reign. As a result, it is now 12 games without a win in all competitions. Furthermore, the Hatters have just one away victory this season, that coming against Millwall in September.

The previous clash at Kenilworth Road in October saw Luton pick up a rare victory, and an impressive one at that. Goals from Jordan Clark, Carlton Morris and Jacob Brown secured a 3-0 win, which is their biggest of the season so far. Watford won the last meeting at Vicarage Road in 2022, emerging with a 4-0 victory. Luton’s last triumph on the Hornets’ own turf came in the League Cup in 2002. You have to go back to 1994 for the last time the Hatters won away from home against Watford in the league.
