Our Three Predictions For Swindon Town v Chesterfield

  • Prediction 1 – Match To Be A Draw – 9/4
  • Prediction 2 – Swindon Town To Win – 81/50
  • Prediction 3 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 57/100

First Prediction For Swindon Town v Chesterfield – Match To Be A Draw – 9/4

Two of the last three meetings between the two sides have ended in a draw, but that night not be a fair assessment given that Chesterfield were out of the EFL since 2018. Earlier in the season the game ended in a 1-1 draw, but that was way back in August at the start of the campaign. The two have become somewhat draw specialists, with Swindon ending level in 11 of their 32 games, and their visitors in this game, nine of their 30. That alone would suggest a draw, add in that the last home game for Swindon ended in an entertaining 3-3 draw against Port Vale, this could end up another stalemate. Chesterfield are still within playoff places range, but the recent form of their hosts should counter the threat they have.

Second Prediction For Swindon Town v Chesterfield – Swindon Town To Win – 81/50

Swindon Town were somewhat shocked last time out when Harrogate Town beat them 1-0. This was because they had been on a run that saw them be an outside chance for a playoff place. In fact the two teams on display here are seven places apart, but only four points separates them, albeit Chesterfield have played two games fewer. Despite winning only six of their 15 home matches Swindon have outscored opponents 26-22, this is largely down to their current form which has seen them lose only one game in their last six, and taking games to teams that a few weeks ago they would’ve otherwise struggled against. Chesterfield have not won on the road in the last five attempts, and the last win was a 2-0 success at rock bottom Carlisle United on December 14, and this will give the edge to Swindon.

Third Prediction For Swindon Town v Chesterfield – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 57/100

Swindon have scored 26 of their 46 goals at home, and of late have been scoring for fun, 15 in their last six games, including three against Port Vale, and knocking five past Carlisle. They should light up the scoreboard some more with Chesterfield’s away form not the best and have conceded nine in their last five road trips. But, the visitors in this game can also crow about their own goalscoring output, with 49 from their 30 played overall, and even though they may be a little leaky at the back when on their travels they have still outscored their hosts 24-20. Either way you look at this match it shouldn’t be a goalless encounter, and both sides will be able to find the net with relative ease.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head

It was not guaranteed, but when Ian Holloway took over in the Swindon Town dugout, the culture shift and dynamic through the playing staff was always going to be different. And so it has proved, with a run of games that had some even saying they could make a late run to the playoffs, as each year one team does seem to do that. Th Red and White Army has been deployed through the last few weeks, and even though still in the lower reaches of the League Two table, they are a team on the up. Harry Smith has led the front line admirably and has 12 goals to his name, as well as a solitary assist. Daniel Butterworth and Joel Cotterill and proving a handful from midfield and a good foil for Smith, as between them they have six goals and four assists. At the back Will Wright keeps a tight ship, as well as an eye for a goal, and Tunmise Sobowale has proved valuable in the recent run of form, that has seen Swindon lose only three times since mid December.

Paul Cook can still push for the playoffs, but will need to stamp out the inconsistent results, as well as pick up more points on the road. Something that could be more difficult as the season starts to wind down, and ramp up in terms of pressure. The fact that The Spireites are in the playoff hunt is testament to Cook, as he always seems to get maximum effort from his players. Not one player has got into double figures yet scoring wise, but four players have six or more. Albanian Armando Dobra leads the way with eight and also has two assists. Tom Naylor leads the way in assists though with five, its now wonder why those two are also leading the away in appearances. Defenders Tyrone Williams and Jack Sparkes have only played 13 games between them and will need to be sharp, as will midfielder Darren Oldaker, who will need to move up the gears a little if the season is to have a happy conclusion.
