Huddersfield Town Boss Reveals Latest Injury Blow

Michael Duff has revealed Matty Pearson will be out ‘for a period of time’ after tearing his calf following Huddersfield Town‘s draw with Reading.

The Terriers slipped further behind in the League One promotion battle after a drab 0-0 in West Yorkshire, with the centre-back missing the game against The Royals after playing the full ninety minutes against Northampton Town.

“There’s No Getting Away From That”

Pearson’s injury makes him the sixth senior player in the Town squad to be put onto the injury list, coinciding with a slip from Micahel Duff’s side which has them now ten points behind Wycombe Wanderers in second place.

Speaking to HTTV following the draw to Reading, the former Barnsley boss explained how injuries are having a big impact on their results. He said (Quotes via Yorkshire Live):

“The injuries are hurting us, there’s no getting away from that.

“We’ve got an unbelievable amount, and a lot of the injuries are the similar-type players, in terms of pace and power, of which Kas is one. Joe Taylor is pace and power, Mickel Miller’s pace and power, Ruben’s pace and power, Nigel (Lonwijk) is the same. It is what it is.

“Matty Pearson’s now out for a period of time, he’s pulled his calf, we don’t even know when he’s done it. He reported it Friday morning and then sent him for a scan, and he’s got a significant tear.

“I don’t know what we’ve done at the minute, someone’s run over a black cat or something like that, but come in, work on the positives and the negatives, because there are both from every game.”

The game did have multiple positives though, with David Kasumu and Lee Nichols both returning to the squad after long absences.

Writer’s View

It is a frustrating time for Huddersfield Town and certainly having those absences won’t be helpful but results have to be delivered and they have the personnel to secure three points in most matches. Dion Charles and Callum Marshall both started against Reading but both have been ineffective for months now despite being some of the better forwards in the league. Losing Matty Pearson is another blow but with Tom Lees returning after a short absence they are still well covered in defence. Town need to find the results to get back in touch with the top two or face a major battle in the play-offs this season.
