Our Three Predictions For Preston North End vs Wycombe Wanderers:

  • First Prediction For Preston North End vs Wycombe Wanderers: Match Result – Preston North End – 11/10
  • Second Prediction For Preston North End vs Wycombe Wanderers: Over 2.5 Goals – 9/10
  • Third Prediction For Preston North End vs Wycombe Wanderers: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 18/25

First Prediction For Preston North End vs Wycombe Wanderers: Match Result – Preston North End – 11/10

Preston occupy fifteenth spot in the Championship, drawing thirteen of their 30 encounters in the second tier so far this campaign. North End will be confident of avoiding an upset to progress to the Fifth Round of the FA Cup, having defeated another League One side in Round Three in Charlton. That was a side that Wycombe failed to overcome over the festive period, and despite falling against fellow promotion hopefuls Huddersfield early in January, they are well set for a second-ever season in the Championship next term. The league still remains a massive priority, and with new manager Mike Dodds in the away dugout at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon, he will be having a look at his side in action for the first time. Preston should have just enough to win the tie, but this could well be a league meeting next season.

Second Prediction For Preston North End vs Wycombe Wanderers: Over 2.5 Goals – 9/10

Each of the Lilywhites last three encounters have seen a scoreline of 2-1, with two in their favour. Seven of their past eight games have seen both sides on the scoresheet, with only the goalless draw failing to see a goal in that timeframe. That should be the case again on Saturday, against the sides who have scored the most goals in League One. With 55 in 29 games, Wycombe have outscored their nearest competitors Birmingham by nine goals, albeit by playing two games more than the league leaders. It’s at the other end where they can come unstuck, conceding 30 goals which is the most inside the top seven in the division. These two records mean that there should be at least three goals shared between both teams in this tie.

Third Prediction For Preston North End vs Wycombe Wanderers: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 18/25

You can expect Wycombe to find themselves on the scoresheet this afternoon give the above record. While leading scorer Richard Kone may not start, having been on the bench in the last round before playing the final fifteen minutes, Wanderers have still scored plenty without his goals. He was though absent from last Saturday’s draw at Cambridge too. Preston meanwhile have discovered their scoring touch in the past few weeks, and now boast a record in front of goal that is just shy of that of their Lancashire rivals Blackburn and Burnley. Both those sides are inside the top six, but it’s Preston’s defensive record that is holding them back from reaching those heights currently, conceding 38 this term.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Aside from last Friday’s Lancashire derby reverse to Blackburn Rovers, the Lilywhites have been in good form in 2025 thus far. They shrugged off a New Year’s Day loss against West Brom to go five games unbeaten across all competitions. They built on draws against Oxford and Luton by recording narrow wins over Watford and Middlesbrough.

That was the case in December for Paul Heckingbottom’s side, losing just once at in-form QPR before Christmas. North End won both their festive home encounters against Hull and Sheffield Wednesday, part of a longer run of form that has seen just three losses in their past sixteen games across league and cup since early December.

Wycombe meanwhile will have Mike Dodds in the dugout for the first time on Saturday afternoon, after he was appointed the new Wanderers head coach on Sunday. He inherits a side in second place in League One, who despite dropping points in two of their last three games, are inside the top two by four points ahead of their break from league action.

Josh Stokes denied the Chairboys three points last Saturday, hauling Cambridge level with seven minutes to play. By the same point of their prior midweek clash against Barnsley, the scoreline was also level. Up stepped Richard Kone to score his sixteenth league goal of the campaign deep into injury-time, becoming the outright top scorer in League One. The Buckinghamshire side had encountered a slight blip after losing at Charlton and against Huddersfield in the past six weeks, but are now five games unbeaten across all competitions.

To reach this stage of the competition, both sides had to overcome opposition from each other’s league. Two goals from Milutin Osmajic saw North End defeat Charlton Athletic 2-1, while the Chairboys eased to victory over struggling Portsmouth thanks to two goals without reply, scored inside the opening half an hour.

This is just the nineteenth meeting between the clubs since first clashing in 1993, with Preston leading the head-to-head record by five wins. Despite that, the Chairboys have won the past two games, including the most recent game in March 2021 when Ryan Tafazolli scored the game’s only goal. In the FA Cup, they have met three times in the past twelve years, Preston winning twice but Wycombe thrashed the Championship outfit 4-1 in January 2021.
