Morecambe manager Derek Adams has revealed the club have received a double transfer blow over the past week but is still hopeful of completing some business before the end of the window.
The Shrimps have endured another difficult transfer window this month having been placed under an embargo until January 29th. They had hoped to conclude two loan signings in order to strengthen their squad following a miserable first half of the campaign.
The Lancashire-based outfit currently sit bottom of League Two and six points from safety. Having failed to score in six of their last eight games, a goalscorer is the priority. They are keen to bring in Andy Dallas from Barnsley, who spent the first half of the season on loan at Barrow. However, his time at Holker Street was cut short earlier this month.
Adams Delivers Transfer Update
A move for Dallas fell through after the EFL rejected the transfer, although Adams is still hopeful a deal can be concluded. Speaking to The Lancashire Guardian, he said:
“There’s still hope there (of completing a move for Dallas).
“A deal with Carlisle United was accepted and agreed but we’re still hopeful the player would want to return to us.
“We had all the paperwork done between the clubs and player and sent it to the EFL, but it was rejected.
“The club then had to get their house in order and prove to the EFL they could fund it until the end of the season.
“That’s something that should have been done weeks and months ago, but it wasn’t – and we, as a football staff, have to deal with the consequences.”
Continuing, the 49-year-old revealed that they had struck a deal with Lincoln City over a temporary move for Dylan Duffy. That fell through though, with the midfielder joining Chesterfield instead:
“There’s scope for a second player. Dylan Duffy, who went to Chesterfield, we had agreed a (loan) deal with Lincoln City for him.
“He was coming to us but, unfortunately, that was another phone call I had to make.”
Writer’s View
This must be really frustrating for Derek Adams. He was limited with what he could do during the summer and then has faced similar challenges this month. This has left Morecambe with little time to bring players through the door and they are now in a scramble to add to their squad before Monday’s deadline. They’ll be keen to beat Carlisle to Dallas’ signature, with the Cumbrians also fighting for their lives at the bottom of League Two.
