Here we have two teams gunning for promotion from League Two that have hit a bit of a bump in the road over the past week. Walsall head into this game top of the table, although they have seen their lead to nine points after suffering back-to-back defeats for the first time this season. A 3-0 loss at Bradford City last weekend ended a run of nine successive wins and they followed that by losing 2-0 to Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night. Therefore, they host Salford on Saturday in unfamiliar territory in an attempt to get their title bid back on track.
Salford have also lost their last two. Like Walsall, this is the first time this has occurred this season and their 2-0 reverse against Fleetwood last weekend halted a run of six wins on the bounce. They then went down 2-1 to Cheltenham Town in the midweek fixture. With both teams in almost identical form, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see this end as a stalemate.

The Saddlers have not only lost their last two but they’ve also failed to score in both. Furthermore, they hit the back of the net nine times in their last two fixtures at the Poundland Bescot Stadium. However, they haven’t kept a clean sheet since December and have conceded 13 goals in their last six outings in all competitions.
Salford are a team that also pose an attacking threat, albeit not as strong as Walsall. They have scored in eight of their last 10 league fixtures and have ony failed to find the net in one away game since the end of September. Their recent six-game winning streak may have also seen the Ammies keep six xlean sheets, but they’ve shown in their last two games that they can be fragile at the back. The league leaders will be confident they can break down Salford’s back line.

Similar reasons to the above, although this plays a little safe in the result that either team keep a clean sheet. Walsall have been involved in high scoring games for the majority of the campaign, especially at home. Only two games at the Bescot Stadium have seen under two goals, one of which was on the opening day when the Saddlers recorded a 1-0 win over Morecambe to get their season off to a flier. All of their last eight games have also finished above this marker.
Salford still produce high averages in this market, albeit not as often as their hosts. Eight of their last 10 league games have seen two or more goals, but with both teams proving to be leaky at the back in recent weeks, this should provide a fairly safe bet.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head
Despite losing successive games against Fleetwood and Bradford, Walsall are still well on course to return to League One for the first time since 2019. They still hold a nine point lead at the top of League Two following Doncaster Rovers’ 3-1 win over Barrow last night, but the Saddlers do possess a game in hand. Their recent blip has come off the back of a stunning 16-game unbeaten run, whilst their last two home games have seen them show their superiority by beating MK Dons 4-2 and Tranmere Rovers 5-1.
Salford also head into this fixture having suffered back-to-back defeats. Like Walsall, they lost to Fleetwood but will be disappointed to have come away from Cheltenham with nothing. These losses have seen them slip out of the play-off places, where they sit two points behind seventh-placed Port Vale in eighth. A trip to the West Midlands is probably the last thing they needed as they search for a return to winning ways.
