This Championship clash pits two teams together with very different contrasting fortunes. Derby County find themselves in a battle to secure their Championship status whereas Sheffield United are challenging for a place in the Premier League at the other end of the table.

Derby looked well on course to secure a mid-table finish this season. That would have been a great achievement after only earning promotion from League One last season, but they have slumped from 11th in October to 22nd thanks to a run of dreadful form. Sheffield United have been involved in four games from their last five that have gone over 2.5 goals, but prior to that they had been involved in low scoring affairs for the majority of the season. Only five of their first 24 matches saw the net bulge three times or more, and this could follow a similar route with the Rams difficult to break down.

Derby have really been struggling in front of goal, which has led to their huge downturn in form. They have failed to score in four of their last six outings and are yet to find the net against any of the current top four this season. This includes two games against Sunderland, one against Burnley, one against Sheffield United and two against Leeds United. Based on that, the expectation would be that the Blades would win this without conceding.

Chris Wilder’s side drew a rare blank against Hull on Friday. They have only failed to score on five occasions all season whilst 15 of their 18 league victories have been accompanied by a clean sheet. All signs point to this being a low scoring affair which finishes in favour of the away side.

Derby are in deep trouble and head into this game inside the bottom three. It’s a far cry from the first third of the season, where it looked as if their debut campaign in the Championship would result in a comfortable mid-table finish.
