Latest Harrogate Town Acquisition Reveals Dream Transfer

New Harrogate Town signing Tom Cursons has revealed his move to the EFL is a dream come true after working his way up the non-league ladder.

The Sulphurites announced that they had beaten off League One and Two opposition to land the prolific striker yesterday, who has penned a two-and-a-half year deal. The 23-year-old had previously been with Northern Premier League outfit Ilkeston Town, where he had scored25 goals in 30 appearances this season.

Harrogate have had a busy transfer window so far, with the total of new arrivals at the Exercise Stadium now up to five. Manager Simon Weaver has targeted a number of additions to his squad as he tries to navigate a way up League Two. Whilst relegation looks unlikely, they are still at the wrong end of the table and are still looking to improve on last season’s 13th placed finish.

Cursons Sets Target

With the realisation setting in that he is now a full time footballer, Cursons has indicated that he wants to continue the rich vein of form which saw him earn a move to North Yorkshire. Speaking to official club media, the striker said:

“I’m delighted, the chance to play full-time football in the EFL is something I’ve dreamed of, so to be here now with it all signed feels really good.

“I want to come in and affect things straight away, play a part and score goals for the team.

“It’ll probably take a few days and a few training sessions for it to properly sink in, but it’s a really exciting time for me.”

Cursons had been linked with a number of clubs, including Bolton Wanderers, Derby County, Barnsley, Peterborough United and Chesterfield.

Writer’s View

Harrogate are one of the lowest scorers in League Two, so it’s no surprise to see them target a goalscorer this month. They’ve already brought in Olly Sanderson on loan from Fulham and alongside Cursons, Simon Weaver will be hoping the pair solve their issues in front of goal. It seems more clubs in and around League Two are taking chances on players further down the football pyramid. Their latest acquisition looks like he knows where the goal is. This has the potential to be a huge signing for the Sulphurites.
