Carlisle United have received a huge boost ahead of their trip to Fleetwood Town following the news that a trio of players are set to return from injury.
The Cumbrians have endured a dreadful campaign in League Two. After suffering relegation from League One last season, they’ve found themselves back in familiar territory at the foot of the table. This time the danger is a drop into non-league for the first time since 2005.
Finding themselves seven points from safety, Carlisle are doing everything they can to salvage their EFL status. They have used the winter transfer window as an opportunity to bolster their squad, with no less than nine players have arrived this month.
One of those is veteran defender Paul Dummett, who brings a wealth of experience to Brunton Park. However, the ex-Newcastle United man is yet to feature after suffering a car crash prior to the 1-0 defeat against Bradford City last week.
Dummett Set For Debut
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash with Fleetwood, head coach Mike Williamson revealed that Dummett is available for selection. Via The News & Star, he said:
“He’s trained fully and he’s fine.
“I’ve known Dummy a long time, and when you know him – he’s just trained like Paul Dummett does.
“Even when I saw him last Saturday, the day after the accident, he wasn’t fazed, and he’s come in and been exactly the same this week.”
The ex-MK Dons boss also delivered a positive update on injured duo Terell Thomas and Ethan Robson:
“Both have trained really well, and we’re really, really happy to have them back.
“They’re both not ready for a start, but they will be ready for some minutes.
“As long as they have a clean week this week and barring any setbacks, they should be able to be involved in some capacity.”
Writer’s View
This is a timely boost for Carlisle, who are beginning to be cut adrift at the foot of League Two. Three successive losses has seen other teams begin to pull away and the Cumbrians really need to start getting points on the board if they are to have any chance of surviving. Having someone with Premier League experience in their ranks will certainly aid their plight, whilst being able to ease some of the injured players back in is another huge positive.
