Blackburn Rovers have a great opportunity to cement their playoff credentials at Ewood Park, but will be wary not to be too complacent against a Portsmouth side that has picked up some impressive result recently.

Our Three Predictions For Blackburn Rovers v Portsmouth
- Prediction 1 – Blackburn Rovers To Win – 73/100
- Prediction 2 – Match To End In A Draw – 53/20
- Prediction 3 – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 87/100
First Prediction For Blackburn Rovers v Portsmouth – Blackburn Rovers To Win – 73/100
Blackburn Rovers had a rough Christmas period in terms of result in the Championship, but put things right with a win away at Middlesbrough in the FA Cup this past weekend. They have slipped away from the chase for automatic promotion but are still in the thick of the playoff chase. Their home form will be key going forward and after recent losses by a single goal to Hull City and Burnley, they will view this game as ideal to get things back on track. Their last home win was back on December 14, a month ago. Portsmouth though do not travel well and have lost their last five away games – without scoring in the last three – by a combined 1-12.
Second Prediction For Blackburn Rovers v Portsmouth – Match To End In A Draw – 53/20
A decent 2-2 home draw against Sunderland on Boxing Day was the last time Rovers drew at home, but they did fight for a 1-1 result at Leeds United a few days later. They have only drawn twice in their 13 home games so far, but many games have been close, as their +6 goal difference would suggest. Portsmouth are on a bad run away from home, and have only won once on the road all season in the Championship. They do have a knack of snatching a point here and there, and have picked up four draws on the road, the last of which was a 2-2 result at Swansea City at the end of November. They will have to find some of their recent fighting spirit to gain a point here, but it is not off the table at all.
Third Prediction For Blackburn Rovers v Portsmouth – Both Teams To Score – Yes – 87/100
For a promotion challenging side, Blackburn have not exactly kept the scoreboard operators busy with goal celebrations. However, they do average over a goal a game, with 28 from their 25 outings so far. At home they perform much better with 17 of that amount coming form their 13 games. Pompey are actually better off in front of goal by the tune of two with 30 goals in their 24 games, and away they are exactly a goal a game with 13. Both teams have drawn a blank in their last league outing but found enough to dispose of opposition in the FA Cup over the weekend. This does not look like a game where goals will happen, but given both sides need for points they should come out with attacking intent.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head
Blackburn Rovers are one of the Championship’s big puzzles. When you think they are on a roll and heading for a big promotion push, they seem to undo all their good work with a poor run. The festive period has derailed any automatic promotion thoughts, but the playoffs are still very much on. John Eustace will have to work his magic again to get Rovers back on track, and after a good FA Cup win they do have a good chance to back it up here. Danny Batth will once more lace up his boots at the back, a practical ever present so far but the 34-year-old will have to use all his nous to keep a lively Pompey attack at bay. Up front they are relying on Todd Cantwell and Thyhrs Dolan to reignite their real promotion ambitions.
John Mousinho has started to change the fortunes of Portsmouth over the last six weeks or so. A team that was seemingly destined for relegation now has renewed hope of staying up. However, they are still in the bottom three, and in dire need of a solid run to climb away form the drop zone. More of the 4-0 win over Swansea City on New Years Day, and less of the 3-0 defeat at Bristol City just three days before will be needed. Callum Lang has nine goals to his name, and will be the main threat again, but you can’t leave Colby Bishop unattended as he has the ability to turn games on his own. At the back Connor Ogilvie is starting to form a good partnership with Ryley Towler, alongside the experienced Marlon Pack. This trio will be important if Pompey are to come away with a positive result in this game.
