First Prediction For Cardiff City vs Watford: Match Result – Cardiff – 121/100

Fresh off the back of their FA Cup triumph over divisional rivals Sheffield United, the Bluebirds will be confident of pulling off another scalp in terms of positioning on their return to league action. They are now four unbeaten in all competitions, drawing against Coventry and Middlesbrough to move within goal difference of moving outside the bottom three. The Hornets meanwhile have slipped off the pace in their pursuit of a Play-Off position. They have lost their last four in all competitions, a run which began with the reverse game between the sides. Watford were also soundly beaten in the FA Cup against Fulham on Thursday evening. Both sides may have opposing goals for the campaign, but Cardiff’s improved form should have them in good stead to take the points.

Second Prediction For Cardiff City vs Watford: Under 3.5 Goals – 6/25

Only three sides have scored fewer times than Omer Riza’s side this campaign. Each of their last three games has seen less than 2.5 goals, including both league encounters in 2025 that ended in a 1-1 draw. Only once in their last six have there been more than four goals in a game. Watford meanwhile have seen their scoring tally take a hit in recent outings. No game saw more than four goals in December, with only the New Year’s Day defeat to QPR seeing that figure reached in their past nine league outings. The Hornets magnificent 6-2 away win at Sheffield Wednesday has also boosted that figure, accounting for over 11% of the goals in games involving the Hertfordshire outfit this campaign.

Third Prediction For Cardiff City vs Watford: Both Teams To Score – Yes– 71/100

The Bluebirds appeared to have found a goalscoring touch in recent weeks, scoring in each of their past five encounters across all competitions. Their tally of six in four league games represents almost a quarter of their total for the campaign, proving that a corner has been turned in terms of finding the back of the net. Unfortunately for the Hornets, they have regressed in the other direction in that time but have still managed to hit one goal in each of their last four. Not since a goalless draw against QPR on 30th November have Watford hit a blank, scoring in each of their past eight games.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

The Bluebirds have hit a resurgence in their past few outings since winning the reverse fixture on 29th December. A winless December meant their last three point haul arrived against Norwich, ten games before Callum Robinson struck the two decisive blows to give them a happy end to 2024.

2025 hasn’t begun with a win yet, but Cardiff have taken two points from their opening league games of the year. Having drawn against Coventry City on New Years Day, Callum Chambers early equaliser earned them a second successive point, making it three games unbeaten in the league. Up until then, Omer Riza had suffered a tough December in his opening month as permanent manager. The Bluebirds had lost three of four against Preston, Sheffield United and Oxford before being denied victory at the death against Stoke.

In spite of the league table, Watford enter the game in worse form than their opponents. The Hornets are three points adrift of the Play-Off places, but a win at the Cardiff City Stadium would take them to within goal difference of the top six. But they have lost three successive league outings prior to the trip to the Welsh capital, and arrive in inconsistent form.

Tom Cleverley’s side have lost as many home games in 2025 as they had in the first half of the 24/25 campaign after Sheffield United defeated them at Vicarage Road. A resurgent QPR side also got the better of the Hornets on the opening day of the year. Four of their five games last month ended 2-1, with two in Watford’s favour.

The two sides had contrasting FA Cup 3rd Round results. While Cardiff overcame the 20 place gap to defeat Sheffield United by a single goal, Watford were not so fortunate. The Hornets were well beaten by Premier League Fulham 4-1, but with both sides in action on Thursday, they should be well rested ahead of this midweek encounter.

As mentioned above, Cardiff got the better of Watford in the final game of 2024. This encounter was rearranged after the Bluebirds cited safety concerns for supporters ahead of the scheduled meeting on 7th December. The Bluebirds have a good recent record against the Hertfordshire outfit, unbeaten in the past four meetings between the sides. Josh Bowler scored the only goal in the encounter last campaign between the then two mid-table outfits. Over history though, the head-to-head record is tight with 26 victories for tonight’s hosts and 23 for Watford.
