Notts County Learn Of Two Season-Ending Injuries

Notts County have reported that Scott Robertson and Lucas Ness are likely to miss the remainder of the 24/25 campaign with injuries.

Stuart Maynard’s Magpies, who sit in sixth place in League Two in the race for automatic promotion, announced the blow earlier today on their X account.

Injury Details

Ness sustained a tear in his hamstring in the eight-goal thriller against Cheltenham at the end of the year. The 22-year-old was replaced after 34 minutes by Conor Grant, before he was then substituted for Rod McDonald with only four minutes of the 5-3 win remaining.

Robertson meanwhile has undergone surgery on his quadricep, after picking up an injury in training. It now appears highly likely that the pair won’t play for the East Midlands outfit for the rest of the campaign, in a blow to their promotion aspirations.

Squad Depth Takes a Hit

While neither of the pair had been regulars, Ness had forced his way into contention with an outstanding showing against Newport in November. He had seven fourth-tier games behind him before his campaign was abruptly cut short.

23-year-old Robertson joined Notts almost a year ago, but only had 319 minutes to his name this campaign, also making seven league appearances.

Magpies Winter Business & Welcome News

In more positive news, last season’s League Two Player of the Season Jodi Jones was welcomed back in last Wednesday’s defeat to Walsall. The Malta international was brought on for the final quarter of an hour against the league leaders, a position Notts had themselves held when he suffered his injury on 21st September. He also came off the bench in the weekend win over Swindon Town.

Elsewhere, Will Jarvis was announced as the first arrival of this window late on Monday evening after signing a three-and-a-half-year deal from Hull City. In terms of outgoings, Cedwyn Scott, scorer of the penalty that won Notts promotion from the National League in 2023, joined Carlisle for an undisclosed fee.

This may force Notts County’s hand in the winter window into being a little more active than they would have liked. With the sole addition thus far, there are still more than three weeks remaining to complete any deals to strengthen the squad ahead of the run-in. Maynard will also be all too aware of rushing Jones back into action given his previous injury record of three cruciate knee ligament injuries at Coventry.
