1st Prediction For Fleetwood Town vs AFC Wimbledon: AFC Wimbledon to win 139/100

Fleetwood Town, who were relegated from League One last season, have struggled to find their feet in the fourth tier and, despite being the away side, AFC Wimbledon are the bookmakers favourites heading into the game. Johnnie Jackson’s side sat in 2nd place in the table heading into the weekend and they have been in good form over the festive period, picking up 10 points in five games. The Fishermen, on the other hand, are closer to the relegation zone than the playoffs having picked up 27 points from their 22 league games. Charlie Adam was dismissed from his role as manager in December and he was replaced by Pete Wild who has only had two games in charge, but won neither of them. Wild will also have to contend with the loss of academy graduate and fan favourite Carl Johnston as well as midfielder Liam Shaw heading into the game which gives the visitors another advantage.

2nd Prediction For Fleetwood Town vs AFC Wimbledon: AFC Wimbledon to win and both teams to score: yes 41/10

Despite the away side being favourites heading into Sunday’s match, Fleetwood Town have shown some fight in recent games and they could score a goal, even if they do not end up victorious. Fleetwood have picked up four points in the three games since Charlie Adam was dismissed and Pete Wild will be disappointed that his side could only draw one-one with Harrogate Town despite creating almost three times as much xG and having twice as many shots as their visitors. Additionally, midfielder Matthew Virtue has been in good goalscoring form in the last calendar month, picking up three goals to take his total for the season to six in just 22 league games. This prediction is certainly a risk as Wimbledon have conceded the second-least xG this season, but it could be fruitful if Pete Wild is able to get his team to convert one of the many chances they create.

3rd Prediction For Fleetwood Town vs AFC Wimbledon: Matthew Stevens to score at any time 37/20

Over the last few seasons Matthew Stevens has turned into almost a guarantee of goals in the fourth tier and predicting the 26-year-old to score at any time could therefore be wise. Stevens had always been touted as a highly-talented young player but he first showed this in the 2021/22 season where he scored a remarkable 22 goals in 37 games to fire Forest Green Rovers to promotion to League One. Last season he managed to get 11 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions despite playing in a Forest Green side that got relegated to the National League and struggling with injuries at times. This season he already has 12 league goals in 23 games and 16 goals in 31 games in all competitions which makes him the Dons’ top scorer and biggest attacking threat by a country mile. Fleetwood Town have not been particularly tight at the back, they have conceded the 10th most xG in the league, and they could be made to pay for it by Stevens on Sunday.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head

Fleetwood Town came into the weekend sitting in 17th place in the league and seven points off the relegation zone. Their form has picked up in the last three games after the departure of Charlie Adam, who oversaw just one win in his last 11 games. Sunday’s match will be Pete Wild’s second game in front of a home crowd and third game in charge of the Fishermen in total. He will be looking to pick up his first win and build some momentum during January so that his team stay well away from a relegation dogfight. AFC Wimbledon started the weekend sitting in second place but, such is the nature of League Two this season, closer to the bottom half of the table than to the league leaders. Nevertheless, Johnnie Jackson’s men will believe that they can catch runaway leaders Walsall so long as they maintain a consistently high level of performance, though finishing in the top three and earning automatic promotion would be a slightly more realistic aim.
