Our Three Predictions for Northampton Town vs Charlton Athletic

  • First Prediction: Match to end in a draw – 12/5
  • Second Prediction: Under 2.5 goals to be scored – 18/25
  • Third Prediction: Cameron McGeehan to score at any time – 79/20

First Prediction for Northampton Town vs Charlton Athletic – Match to end in a draw – 12/5

Both of these sides have not been in good form recently, only winning one of the last five in all competitions. Sitting 14th, the Addicks have yet again experienced an underwhelming start to the season and are only three points away from their opponents for this one, who currently occupy 19th place and are two points off the relegation zone. On top of this, the Cobblers rank 12th best for home form, with Charlton ranking 12th best for away form, meaning this match will likely be a close-knit encounter. Although both sides will be desperately in hunt of all three points, all the arrows are pointing towards both sides taking a point a-piece.

Second Prediction for Northampton Town vs Charlton Athletic – Under 2.5 goals to be scored – 18/25

Another aspect that both sides seemingly struggle with is scoring goals. For the hosts, they have only scored 21 goals in 20 games, with six of those goals coming from their unlikely top-scorer and midfielder Cameron McGeehan. Charlton’s record is worse, however, with Jones’ side only scoring 18 goals in 19 games, a far-fetched tally to what they achieved last season. Ian Sampson’s side have failed to score in three of their last five games, whilst the Addicks have also failed to score in three of their last games. For the away side, their only saving grace is their defensive record, however, the hosts, do tend to concede plenty of goals and have leaked 11 goals in their last five games alone.

Third Prediction for Northampton Town vs Charlton Athletic – Cameron McGeehan to score at any time

Northern Irish international McGeehan has been one of the only positives for the Cobblers this season. Since joining the club in the summer, McGeehan has found himself the unlikely scorer of goals, scoring six goals in 19 League games this season. He finds himself the joint 10th-highest scorer in League One, despite Northampton’s league position. The 29-year-old was the hero against rivals Peterborough United, scoring a brace in front of the Sky Sports cameras in the Nene Derby, and will look to add to his tally further against Charlton on Saturday.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As previously mentioned, these two sides have not had the start they would’ve wanted going into this League One season, but three points would see both sides potentially lift further up the table and away from that dreaded drop zone.

Depending on other results around the grounds, the Addicks could potentially find themselves sat as high as 10th, with the hosts looking at widening the gap from themselves to the relegation zone to five points.

Since 2016, these sides have faced each other eight times, with all these ties coming in League One. The visitors usually get the better of these opponents, winning four of the matches played, whilst the other four are two draws and two Northampton wins.
