Cardiff began the season terribly, losing six of their first seven Championship games. This saw Erol Bulut lose his job in September, with Omer Riza taking over on an interim basis. The Bluebirds enjoyed a bounce under the-year-old, winning four and drawing two between October and November. However, results have dipped since, and they are winless in five. Despite that, Cardiff announced last week that Riza will continue in his role until the end of the season. Preston’s ability to avoid defeat is what is keeping them out of the bottom three at the moment, although they have won just three times all season. The last of those came on October 19th, and they have since drawn seven of their last nine, losing two. Overall, they have 10 draws this season, a number only bettered by West Bromwich Albion.
Preston did win the corresponding fixture last season, emerging from the Cardiff City Stadium with a 2-0 win in February. This proved to be an act of revenge after the Welsh outfit also picked up an away victory, winning 2-1 at Deepdale in November 2023.
