Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has informed supporters about an important duo that they could have available ahead of a huge crunch match at the top of the table against Sheffield United after the international break.
His side were merely seconds away from a priceless victory away at table toppers Sunderland on Friday night, but goalkeeper Illan Meslier’s freak error gifted the hosts a morale-boosting equaliser in the seventh minute of stoppage time. That was the first time this season where Sunderland had dropped points on their own patch against a Leeds side who were really impressive, but devastatingly had to settle for a point.
The Whites will now have two weeks to reset after that energy-sapping encounter and prepare for another Friday night kickoff, as they host recently relegated Sheffield United at Elland Road on Friday the 18th of October. The visitors will go into this one as the only side in the second tier who are still yet to lose a game, with six wins and three draws accumulated from their opening nine matches.
Farke’s side will be hoping to see the return of wingers Daniel James and Manor Solomon for that fixture, and when speaking to Leeds Live, the former Norwich City boss was able to issue a hopeful update ahead of the eagerly anticipated encounter:
“Solomon and James will hopefully come back,” (for the Sheffield United game)
Solomon’s injury has seen him miss the last four matches for Leeds, after making two starts for the club since joining on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, registering one assist. The Israeli international has been named in the side for their massive Uefa Nations League A matches, against France and Italy over the forthcoming week.
Meanwhile it is believed that the hamstring injury that Daniel James’ hamstring injury is not as serious as it was first believed and if all goes well over the break the Welshman should be available for selection for Farke’s side.
Leeds United lie fifth in the table with four wins, four draws and one defeat in their opening nine matches, and whilst they enjoy a rest after a draining last few minutes at Sunderland, attention will be quickly turning to a huge six-pointer against fellow promotion favourites, and if they can get their key wide players in James and Solomon fit and firing ahead of that fixture, will have a lot more depth in the squad, as it was noticeable that Farke only elected to bring three substitutes on at The Stadium Of Light, two of which were defenders that were subbed on in stoppage time.
Writers View:
Daniel James put up some really good numbers for Leeds United last season, scoring thirteen goals and assisting eight in the league in a side where the plaudits went to new West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville, but the absence of their number 7 has been a real pain for squad rotation and having him back for the matches post international break will be a huge boost.
Whereas with Solomon, there is no doubt about the quality of a player he will be at this level if he can stay fit and we saw that in his time playing for Fulham as well as glimpses during his few appearances for Spurs. Having both players back will add to a dangerous forward line that can cause other teams in the league a real problem.
