The 31-year-old has been without a club since 2023, having previously played in MLS for Colorado Rapids across a five-year spell and he even captained the side after former Manchester United and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard hung up his boots.
Unfortunately, Price ruptured his Achilles last year, meaning he hasn’t played a single game since March. Since then, he has spent months with Shrewsbury recovering from the lengthy injury but is now ready to return to action.
Born in Shropshire, the Englishman has a plethora of experience in the Championship and League One, playing for the likes of Wolves, Leyton Orient and Yeovil Town before jetting off across the Atlantic Ocean in 2018, although he did win the third tier during his time at Molineux back in 2014.
With eight games remaining in the campaign, Price is ready to help Paul Hurst’s side stave off relegation to League Two as Shrewsbury currently sit seven points above the relegation zone, with some tough games coming up against Portsmouth, Bolton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic and Orient.
Speaking in a club statement confirming the news, head coach Hurst admitted that Price will be a big addition to the squad, but will need to be eased into the team after suffering a devastating injury twelve months ago.
“He is coming back from a long-term injury, but we believe his quality could play a part for us in our remaining games.
“He has been working on his fitness with us for the past few months.
“I’ve watched how he’s been around the place, the way he conducts himself, the way he communicates – and you can tell there is a respect there from the rest of the players,” he continued.
“We do have to mention he has been out for a long time. He is not suddenly going to be playing 90 minutes.
“But whether he is starting, or more likely coming off the bench, the quality Jack has can help us.”

This is an excellent signing for Shrewsbury if Price can recapture his form of old. The ex-Wolves star is a superb playmaker and a wonderful asset at delivering set-pieces, hence why he broke David Beckham’s record of recording the most assists from set plays in one season in MLS history.
While loans at Leyton Orient and Yeovil didn’t quite work out back in the day, Price has experience in League One which will be valuable to Hurst and if he can have a good impact this season, the player may be willing to stay on past his short-term contract.
