Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has claimed talisman Paul Mullin is back to his best following his hat trick at the weekend in a 4-0 win over Accrington Stanley.
Mullin bagged his first hat-trick of the season as Wrexham comfortably beat struggling Accrington Stanley, leading to the departure of long-time manager John Coleman. It was a result that saw The Red Dragons return to the automatic promotion places in League Two as they hope to achieve back-to-back promotions up the English pyramid.
The striker now has four goals in his last two games as he looks to return to the form that saw him score 38 times in the National League last season. His current tally is 14 this campaign but with Wrexham seemingly back to their free flowing best, he could very well go on to at least break the 20 goal barrier.
Parkinson and Mullin both arrived at The Racecourse Ground in the summer of 2021 and have been key parts of the club’s meteoric rise both on and off the pitch. The 56-year-old was keen to praise his number ’10’ in his post-match interview on Saturday [quotes via The Leader]:
“Mulls was brilliant. He was back to his sharpest.
“I felt the performance on Tuesday and the penalty, you could see he was lifted from that and he took it into today’s performance and they’re three really good goals.
“Like all goalscorers, what Mulls has done here in terms of his goal ratio is extraordinary and there’s going to be a period where it doesn’t go his way, we’ve been able to rest him a few games to keep him fresh and today he was on a different level at times.”
Parkinson was also quick to say his side had finally got rewarded for their recent good performances:
“I’ve been saying that we’ve dominated a lot of games without really getting our rewards and we kept believing that dominance would be turned into goals because in the last few years it normally has.
“It’s probably the first time where we’ve had periods where we haven’t punished teams but today we were excellent in and around that final third which is the most important part of the football pitch.”

Hollywood owners or not, what you need to get promoted at any level is a striker who can score goals week in week out, and Wrexham undoubtedly have that in Paul Mullin. The 29-year-old has won the Golden Boot and achieved promotion in this division before, so he certainly has the knowhow to get the Red Dragons over the line.
It’s not been the smooth sailing title winning campaign that some predicted in August but with 11 games to go, they are well in the mix for automatic promotion. Phil Parkinson will hope to keep his star-studded attack fit for the final quarter of the season and if he can achieve that, they will back themselves in any game from now until May.
