Charlton Athletic midfielder George Dobson could leave The Valley before the January transfer window closes and has been linked with a move to Eastern Europe, according to reports.
The Addicks have been in a turbulent run of form over the past few weeks. Michael Appleton’s side are now winless in 10 matches in all competitions and last picked up a victory at the end of November in a 2-1 win at home against Cheltenham Town.
Furthermore, a 98th-minute goal from Ethan Erhahon for Lincoln City at Adams Park on Saturday afternoon stopped Charlton Athletic from dropping down to 14th in the table. In his 26 matches in charge at The Valley, Appleton has guided the side to just eight wins in all competitions, including five from 20 in League One.
Since the winter market opened two weeks ago today, several Charlton players have been linked with moves away from the club. It was revealed by journalist Darren Witcoop that the club are “facing a fight” to retain the services of star attacker Corey Blackett-Taylor, with promotion-chasers Derby County interested in signing the winger.
Now, according to the South London Press, Charlton face yet another battle to hold onto a star player, with skipper Dobson garnering interest from an unnamed side in Hungary.
The 26-year-old midfielder’s contract expires at the end of the 2023/24 campaign and there has been no sign of an agreement between the club and the player over a new deal, meaning Dobson could potentially leave for free in six months unless a bid is accepted within the coming fortnight.

The South London Press also reported during the summer that newly promoted League Two side Wrexham were looking to sign Dobson but no move ever came to fruition.
Dobson is said to have a market value of between £172-250k, according to FootballTransfers, as he has now entered into the final six months of his deal with the former Premier League outfit.
Writer’s View
The ex-Sunderland midfielder has been integral for Charlton Athletic this season despite the side’s struggles. The captain has played 31 times already in all competitions despite the uncertainty about his future hanging over his head.
However, with his contract being up at the end of the season, Dobson may be considering taking the next step in his career, particularly since Charlton seem to be going in the wrong direction.
