Lincoln City have agreed a deal with Premier League outfit Luton Town over the loan signing of striker Joe Taylor, according to Football Insider
Town recalled Taylor from his loan at Colchester United yesterday, and have swiftly moved to get him another loan deal. Lincoln sit 11th in League One, and game time will likely be at a premium for the young forward due to the Imps continued injury problems in the attacking areas.
The 21-year-old had a cracking start to the 2023/24 season, scoring 12 goals in 27 appearances in League Two. His form is likely to have prompted Luton to find a loan another level up to aid his development even further.
Interest was strong from several clubs in League One for Taylor. The Imps have beaten the likes of Bolton Wanderers, Oxford United and Wycombe Wanderers to the signing of the Luton player.
Danny Cowley took over as the the U’s manager for the first time on Saturday, and he may be ruing the fact he never got to manage the outgoing attacker. Michael Skubala of Lincoln will feel the opposite, with the prospect of the former Peterborough United striker’s goals changing their fortunes this season.
Lincoln are not completely out of a play-off race just yet, but face an uphill battle. Their recent form has seen them slip down the table slightly, having not won since the end of November whilst losing their last four.
Danny Mandroiu is the lead scorer for the East Midlands’ club this season with five goals, which showcases their need for some more goals in the side. The Luton forward may find chances hard to come by however, with City having the sixth worst expected goals in the entire division.
Taylor will be hoping a positive second half of the season can have him in contention for Luton next season. That may be in the Premier League if they continue their impressive form as of late.

Goals change teams, and Taylor’s goals are something Lincoln need. The season risks falling into nothing if they cannot find a spark, and a mid-season loan like this may be exactly what they need. The forward will be eager to prove that he’s effective no matter what level he’s at. A run of games in League One within a team struggling for goals could go a long way to supporting his argument.
The 21-year old may make his debut for his new side this Saturday against Wycombe, who as previously mentioned were interested in acquiring his services.
