Northampton Town manager Jon Brady has admitted that he would like to see some arrivals at Sixfields this month as he looks to maintain the Cobblers’ good form.
The League One side have surged up the table in recent weeks with three wins from their last four outings and currently sit in ninth, just seven points off the play-off places. It’s a far cry from their form at the beginning of the campaign, where Brady’s team sat just above the relegation places at the start of November.
The manager has had to contend with a series of injury concerns this season, especially across his back line, but few can deny their return to the third tier has been a success. Brady guided Northampton back to League One at the second time of asking last season, finishing third in League Two.
Whereas a spot in the top six will still be far from their minds, the 48-year-old is keen to add to his squad to give his side the best possible chance of success this season. Speaking to Northampton Chronicle & Echo, the Australian said:
“I’d like to do some business this month and I hope we can. I want to heap praise on the players we already have here because they’ve done extremely well, but I do think we need a bit of support in some areas and that’s something we need to discuss in-house.

“I’m having to protect players and I’m trying to play the long game but it is very frustrating. You tell me any other manager in this league that has to keep changing their back-line as much as I do. We have a break now so that’s an opportunity to a little reset and see where we’re at.”
Brady also confirmed that the club are in discussions with Newcastle United over an extension to goalkeeper Max Thompson’s loan spell, which is now due to expire:
“Ideally we want to keep him and we’re trying to extend Max’s deal but we are in the hands of Newcastle.”
The 19-year-old has emerged as Northampton’s first choice shotstopper this season, starting the last 10 league fixtures.
Yesterday’s 1-0 win over Cheltenham Town was their last fixture for two weeks, with their next match scheduled for January 13th against Wigan Athletic.

Jon Brady has done an excellent job at Northampton this season and few would have predicted the kind of season they would have after only achieving promotion last May. He has built a team which is notoriously difficult to break down and more importantly, one that never stops working.
Whilst injuries have been a major concern, it looks as if this is starting to ease, but additions this month would certainly be welcome at Sixfields.
