Peterborough United will sell star defender Ronnie Edwards during the January transfer window, with several clubs lining up to secure his signature, according to the latest reports.
It was reported during the summer that West Ham United were keen to sign the centre-back but had numerous bids rejected by chairman Darragh MacAnthony. At the same time, Swansea City were another club that had their offers rebuffed by the League One outfit.
It was revealed by The Athletic journalist Nancy Froston on The Real EFL Podcast that Peterborough were looking for £4 million for the 20-year-old but the Posh managed to hold onto his services for at least another half-season.
Not selling Edwards has proven to be the correct choice by Peterborough United as Darren Ferguson’s side have lost merely one game since the start of September, which came in a 2-1 defeat away at Wigan Athletic in November.
The Posh have picked up four wins from their last five outings in League One and have moved up to second in the table and currently boast the third-best defensive record in the third tier as well as the best attacking record, putting the ghosts of last season’s playoff semi-final firmly behind them.

Nevertheless, Peterborough and head coach Darren Ferguson could be dealt a massive blow this winter as, according to The Sun, the club are “certain” to sell Edwards, with Europa Conference League champions West Ham and Everton set to battle it out for his signature.
The report also claims that Peterborough are holding out for £4.5 million which is slightly more than the Hammers offered during the summer.

If Edwards was to leave for £4.5 million over the coming weeks, he would become the fourth-most expensive departure in the club’s history too, behind Britt Assombalonga, Ivan Toney and Dwight Gayle.
Edwards is destined for the top-flight and would be a superb signing for a club like West Ham or Everton. However, MacAnthony certainly won’t be taken advantage of when it comes to a fee and will only take what he believes the defender is worth.
