Wrexham Boss Pleased His Squad Is Finally Accustomed To League Two

In truth, it didn’t take that long, but Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson is now in a position where he can say that the majority of his squad have found their footing in League Two. The quality was always there, it was always about the adjustment.

The squad is a mixed bag of having experience in the EFL, and those that never placed a boot inside the football league. Therefore it was a period of ‘getting to know you’ for the team that was favoured so heavily at the start of the season.

The expectation to just run through the division was always optimistic, and never one that the Wrexham staff took for granted, Now, after a sluggish start where too many goals were being conceded, they have settled in a groove that has seen them not lose a game since 29 September and are unbeaten in 8 league games as well as progressing in the FA Cup and EFL Trophy.

Belief And Confidence

The Reds boss acknowledged the learning curve and is now seeing his team really start to find a rhythm. Reported by The Leader, he said. “We have a combination of players, some have played above the level and some hadn’t played at the level.

“It’s been enjoyable to see the team really gel over a period of time but also individuals really starting to show great belief and confidence they can operate at this level and hopefully above.

“You have seen players really finding their feet.

“Sam Dalby [a player with very limited league experience] put in another really good performance against Gillingham (a 2-0 win) he has looked stronger and stronger the last few games.

“I am really looking forward to what lies ahead but the hard work of the group is paramount to us keep getting results.”

Wrexham travels to Accrington Stanley on Saturday, a team that has lost two straight games after a good run that took them into the playoff places. So the task ahead is far from easy. Their own run though has seen them move up into second place, albeit five points behind Stockport County.

“The perception was it was a comfortable victory but we made it feel that way.

“We executed what we set out to do on training pitch and games that are comfortable, a lot of hard work goes into those performances to make it feel like that.

“We were very pleased with the win because Gillingham are one of the bigger clubs in this division and we now go to Accrington looking to maintain the standards we have shown in recent away performances at Mansfield and Notts County.”

Writer’s View

It does seem now like it is a foregone conclusion that Wrexham will be promoted. They have shaken off their sticky start to get into an imposing groove that currently looks to sweep away all opposition. Phil Parkinson states that he is looking forward to what is ahead. I’m sure the Wrexham fans are as well, as it looks like the squad is now on the same page, and that means more exciting times await.
