Stevenage, Forest Green and Sutton United: Key EFL Fixtures To Look Out For This Weekend – Opinion

There is limited action this weekend in the EFL with international football taking place but there are some fixtures that have survived, and here are three to keep your eye on this weekend:

Stevenage vs Lincoln City

Fifth-placed Stevenage host ninth-placed Lincoln City this weekend, with the home side hoping to keep their five-game unbeaten run going. The away side sit just three points behind Stevenage, with a game in hand, so a win here will give them the opportunity to climb up the table and back in the hunt for the play-off positions.

The Stags will be hoping club top scorer Jamie Reid will maintain his goalscoring form. He has hit 10 goals so far this season and has scored in three of their last four games in all competitions. The side have managed to earn 29 points so far this season but only 13 of those have come at home.

On the flip side, the Imps haven’t got a potent goalscorer, with their club’s top scorer Hakeeb Adelakun managing three goals. The team are also coming into the game on a run of four games without a win in all competitions. However, they will be under their new manager Michael Skubala in what is his first full-time managerial role, after most recently working with Leeds United’s U21s.

Forest Green Rovers vs Grimsby Town

The first of the relegation battles this weekend in League Two, 23rd-placed Forest Green Rovers host 21st-placed Grimsby Town, with both teams desperate for a victory to ease their relegation worries. The home side lost another relegation scrap last weekend away to Tranmere Rovers, having been beaten 3-0 at Prenton Park.

The Mariners come into the game after picking up their first win following a run of four defeats in the league. They managed a 3-2 win at home against Morecambe and will be hoping to earn back-to-back victories for the first time this season. Grimsby have had a difficult time away from home though, losing five and drawing three, and have yet to pick up a win.

Sutton United vs Tranmere Rovers

Bottom of League Two Sutton United host Tranmere in the second of the relegation battles this weekend. The U’s sit on 11 points after seventeen games, with the away side on 13 points following the same number of fixtures. The home side will climb out of the relegation zone if they win and results elsewhere go their way. It has been a difficult start to the season but 10 of their 11 points have been picked up at home.

The Superwhites do come into the game off the back of a comfortable victory against fellow strugglers Forest Green last weekend, but they have had major struggles away from home. Nigel Adkins’ side have played eight away games so far this season, losing each one, so they will be hoping to break that streak to give them a push in their relegation fight.

Predictions

Despite limited action, these fixtures will have major implications in the promotion and relegation fights in the EFL this season. Here are our score predictions for all three games:

Stevenage 1-0 Lincoln City
