Oxford United Star Reveals His Choice For Next Manager

Oxford United star Ruben Rodrigues has shared that he would like Notts County manager Luke Williams to take charge of the League One club.

The U’s have been without a manager since Liam Manning took charge of the vacant managerial position at Bristol City on 7th November, leaving them second in League One. Rodrigues has admitted he would like to see his former manager take up the position at the club, with Williams being heavily linked as Manning’s replacement at the Kassam Stadium, with them hoping to maintain their push towards playing Championship football next season.

The attacker played under the former Swindon Town boss during his time at Notts County, where he made 134 appearances scoring 54 goals. He played a pivotal role in helping the Magpies earn promotion last season, where he scored 19 goals and managed 15 assists, helping them reach 107 points and promotion via the play-offs.

Having joined Oxford in the summer, the 27-year-old has settled to life in the Football League well, taking his goal tally to four for the season after hitting two in the 3-2 win against Accrington Stanley at the weekend.

County’s promotion season was Williams’ first season in charge at Meadow Lane and he has steered them well in their return to League Two, where they currently sit fifth with 30 points in their opening 17 games. The fans of the club will be hoping they can keep ahold of him, but it is now looking increasingly likely that Rodrigues will get his wish to link back up with his old boss.

Speaking on the rumours of a new manager, via Oxford Mail, Rodrigues said: “I hope Luke Williams (will be the next manager), but I can’t say too much. I can’t say it because I love Notts County.”

“I’ve seen Frank Lampard, which for me when I was a young kid, I was watching the Premier League and Chelsea, it’d be a legend coming in, but I don’t really look at Twitter or the odds. That’s the only thing I’ve seen.”

It looks increasingly likely that Luke Williams is going to take charge at Oxford United and will link up again with Ruben Rodrigues. The Notts County boss has achieved great things in his short spell in charge of the Magpies and it is no surprise to see him given an opportunity to progress further up the football pyramid.

The U’s have had a great start in the league this season, and fans were unsurprisingly dissapointed in losing Manning. They will sure be happy to see the club moving quickly to find a replacement, and attempting to bring in one of the brightest young managers in the lower divisions.
