Bolton Wanderers Defender Wants “Good Form” To Carry On Into League Run

Bolton Wanderers have only lost one of their last seven league games and go to Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night to play their game in hand over the only two clubs above them in League One.

On top of this, they played with style on Saturday to dispatch non-league Solihull Moors in the FA Cup. The 4-0 win was well deserved, and Wanderers will now fancy their chances of progressing to the third round after getting a favourable home draw against Harrogate Town in the second round.

Ian Evatt’s side is one of the form sides in the division, and after navigating a potential banana-skin tie successfully, thoughts are very much on putting pressure on Portsmouth and Oxford United, for the top.

Great Form

22-year-old Will Forrester starred in the Cup tie and scored the third goal in the rout of Solihull, his first goal for the team since signing from Port Vale in the summer.

Talking to the Official Club website he said of the game. “I think we showed the right mind-set. I think the four goals have added to the confidence and now we can carry on this good form into the league.

“We focus on the next challenge in front of us, which is obviously Shrewsbury. We’ve just got to keep building on it now and keep this run going.

“Good teams have got to get on a run to get out of this league so I think it’s important we keep it going.”

After being left out of the team, the defender was glad to mark his return with a goal and help the team progress. “I was delighted to get my first competitive goal for the club.

“Every season I like to set myself a target of six goals – whether it’s from set-pieces or stepping in and rifling one in the stanchion.

“That doesn’t come often but it’s something that’s important for me to add to my game and hopefully I can get on the end of a few more crosses.”

Writer’s View

Will Forrester arrived from Port Vale with a solid reputation and was rewarded with a three-year deal. Bolton Wanderers are building a good young squad and see the versatility of players like Forrester as key to their success. Manager Ian Evatt will keep everyone grounded during this current good run.

They have scored in every competitive fixture so far, including an 8-1 thrashing of the Manchester United Academy side in the newly named Bristol Street Motors Trophy. With 10 goals in their last three outings, they will look to impose themselves against Shrewsbury, and a big win could even see them move into second place on goal difference.
