Reading Left Devastated By A New Financial Blow

Reading has today been handed another huge blow. They have been handed another winding-up petition by HMRC. The club has been troubled by a long series of financial issues, and this latest order is a devastating blow.

The League One club, currently sitting 23rd in the table, has already been docked one point this season. They have now missed two payments to HMRC so they would’ve known this latest setback was coming, which of course does not make the news any easier to stomach, and it is still very disheartening for all involved at the club.

Unpaid Bills

The news of this new blow was reported in The Reading Chronicle by James Earnshaw. Being handed an order like this is not new. The club was handed such a petition during the summer months, only to have their case cleared in court shortly before the current season kicked off. It is also the fourth time such an event has occurred under the leadership of Dai Yongee. This has led to an embargo being in place for three transfer windows.

The search for new owners continues, with the often controversial figure of Mike Ashley said to be amongst the front runners.

As always it is the club staff that suffers the most, and with it being the end of the month salaries are due to be paid out, which only leads to more doubts.

As all the uncertainty begins again, no date for a fresh High Court appearance is yet to be made.

Writer’s View

This is a saga that just goes on and on. Much to the dismay of all staff at the club, and of course, the ripple effect it has on the EFL in general. Reading is a club that like any other, needs stability, but for far too long they have been treading a very thin tightrope that looks increasingly like they will slip off. Time will tell just how they come out of this latest complication.
