Reading Manager Admits Hurting Over Recent Form

Reading boss Ruben Selles was left wondering what more could his team do to break their duck away from home this season after a spirited performance at Leyton Orient. The Royals went down 2-1 thanks to a last minute goal by O’s George Moncur.

This result was the sixth straight away defeat this season, a set of results that means Reading have dropped into the bottom four of the League One table. This on top of the black cloud of unpaid wages which could lead to further points deductions, having already been docked four points from this years tally.

Talking to the club’s official site after the latest setback the gaffer said; “We competed until the very end, but there is a moment in final minutes – like in the Exeter game – where we lose the game in a situation where we can easily solve. And it hurts. We were in the game and we came here to compete. We came back after the first goal, but we need to improve in those situations that can happen.”

“Our pressure wasn’t not arriving well enough, so we needed to modify – then they had lots of switches of play, and because of that they had more crosses and we needed to make some modifications. Then we started to defend better; sometimes you need to adjust in the game.”

“We need to accept our responsibility. I am the first responsible. These fans have been very supportive to us; they have come away with us and they know what our record is, and they still support.”

Reading will have to wait a little longer than most as their scheduled fixture for next weekend has been postponed due to international call-ups. This could be a blessing in disguise as that was a game against second placed Oxford United. Instead they have to wait until 21st October when they try and get their first away point when they travel to The Valley to face Charlton Athletic.

The bad news there is that the Addicks are one of the top teams at home so far this season. The Royals will want to pick up some form in general though as even their home results aren’t great, and they will want to try and move away from the drop zone and ease any troubles on the pitch, as further ones off it hang over them.
