“Coming Into A Frenzy” The Deadline Day Chase For Peterborough United Forward

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has issued an update to Bristol Live via Sky Sports on Bristol Rovers’ pursuit of Jonson Clarke-Harris after the Posh rejected a bid from the Gas.

The owner of the League One club may be in Dubai currently, but he says that has not stopped Bristol Rovers president Wael Al-Jadi from FaceTiming him ‘non-stop’ with Rovers looking to complete a deadline day move for the Jamaican international. The chairman admitted that they have rejected a bid for the forward as well as Ronnie Edwards, who has been drawing interest from top-flight clubs in England and Scotland.

Clarke-Harris won the Golden Boot in League One last year, but following their playoff semi-final heartbreak at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday, much of the squad was transfer-listed, including the striker who has been capped once by Jamaica.

Joey Barton’s Rovers went into the season with high hopes after 12 signings at the Memorial Stadium and no major departures. However, that has not been the case, with one win in their opening three games; many believe another striker is what the club needs. Aaron Collins remained in League One with the club despite moves away being rumoured the star opted to stay faithful as Barton has previously stated he has promotion in his sights.

The Peterborough forward has been one of the main talking points of the transfer window after Alfie May’s future was settled. The Jamaican forward has been strongly linked with a return to Rovers this window, and they appear to be persistent in their chase for him as the deadline approaches.

Writer’s View

Jonson Clarke-Harris is available, as we all know, which would mean that Rovers would know the asking price Peterborough expect for the forward. With the deadline fast approaching, it may be they decide to meet that asking price. Rovers looked to be set up for a good season, but goals look hard to come by for them, and they occupy 17th in the league, so the forward is a much-needed addition for them to achieve their goals.
