Fleetwood Town are set to complete the loan signing of Bosun Lawal on loan from Scottish champions Celtic, as reported by Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider.
The 20-year-old defender is set to join Scott Brown’s side on loan and will pen a new contract at Parkhead before departing for his loan spell. Lawal is thought to be highly rated by the Scottish champions since joining from Watford in 2021, and with a lack of first-team action for the youngster, they are prepared to send him out on loan to gain the experience he needs to break into the team.
Lawal has featured once for the senior team since his arrival, playing a full 90 minutes in the cup. However, he has been limited to youth team action, making 21 appearances for the Celtic B team, scoring six times and registering two assists. The defender has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level, having been capped four times for the under-21s.
Fleetwood beat two rivals in League One to the signing of the defender, with Portsmouth and Bristol Rovers linked with a move for the Republic of Ireland defender, but the relationship between the League One side and the Scottish champions continues to flourish.
The League One side appointed former Celtic midfielder Scott Brown as their manager, marking his first job in management, and this will not be the first signing from Glasgow made by Brown, with Scott Robertson joining permanently last summer. The former Scotland midfielder led Fleetwood to a 13th-placed finish last term, and he will be keen to improve on that this season.

Lawal is a player to watch and could be a standout in the third division this season if deployed correctly. Six goals in 21 when playing as a centre-back is an impressive feat, and he could be valuable to Brown’s team, showing versatility in his capability to play in midfield also. Brown has maintained a good working relationship with Celtic since he arrived in Lancashire, and that can be a key factor in making signings.
