Wycombe Wanderers Boss Makes Exciting Transfer Window Admission

Wycombe Wanderers have made nine new additions to the squad this season, but manager Matt Bloomfield has admitted that there may be one or two more.

Having been relegated from the Championship in 2021/22, the Chairboys endured a difficult 2022/23 campaign in League One, finishing ninth and losing long-term boss Gareth Ainsworth to Queens Park Rangers mid-season.

Club legend Bloomfield was placed in charge and has been having his first summer transfer window at Adams Park, signing players such as veteran Richard Keogh, Kane Vincent-Young, Luke Leahy and West Ham United’s starlet Freddie Potts on loan, among others.

Bloomfield’s comments

However, the 39-year-old head coach has stated that Wycombe are not done just yet and will look to make one or two more signings before the window shuts.

When asked about Wycombe’s transfer activity in a recent interview, the Blues boss responded [quotes via the Bucks Free Press]:

“We’re still working behind the scenes as there could be another one at some point or two tops.

“We’re really pleased with the business we have done so far but if anyone becomes available we’ll work hard to try and execute that.

“I think the business we’ve done so far with the money we’ve gone and spent is incredible.”

Bloomfield modestly praised his backroom staff for guiding Wycombe’s transfer policy this season too:

“The work Scott Mitchell, Richard Thomas along with the analysts, the data guys and the fitness staff have done has been brilliant as it’s been a real team effort, and if the right opportunity comes about then we’ll have to make sure it’s right.”

Writer’s View

After a disappointing campaign last term, Wycombe Wanderers have been very proactive in the transfer market and so Bloomfield is rightfully pleased with the club’s activity so far.

The Chairboys have practically signed an entirely new backline too, acquiring centre-backs Keogh and Joe Low, right-back Vincent-Young and left-back Harry Boyes.

The new additions have only been at the back and in midfield and so it will be interesting to see if Bloomfield is looking to bolster his forward line before the window shuts.
