Shrewsbury Town In Hunt For ‘Powerful’ Premier League Forward

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Nathan Fraser is being chased by Shrewsbury Town, according to the Express & Star.

The teenager has been making an impression during pre-season, and Wolves are willing to wait on making a decision as to whether the youngster will depart on loan this summer.

Said to be one of the biggest prospects at Molineux, the 18-year-old has been getting plenty of minutes under his belt, featuring in fixtures against Vitoria, Farense, and the Manchester City academy, whilst he also came on against FC Porto.

Fraser is maintaining the form he showed for the U21s, finding the back of the net on seven occasions last season, with Julen Lopetegui keen on taking a look at the youngster as he looks to bolster a relatively small squad ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Hailed as a “direct and powerful talent,” he made the Wolves first-team squad as a substitute for the first time in a Premier League match against Brighton and Hove Albion in November last year.

The hometown prodigy also featured in a warm-up fixture against League One side Blackpool, with the Premier League side releasing clips from the game.

Republic of Ireland U19 international Fraser can be seen making a decisive contribution, as his terrific hold up play allowed for Matheus Cunha to power home a side foot finish.

A tireless worker, he has been rewarded for his efforts by penning a new deal in June until at least the summer of 2025.

The Shrews are meeting resistance for his signature, which could depend on the future of forward Fabio Silva, with the West Midlands-outfit willing to listen for offers of around £21 million for the 21-year-old.

This is a transfer saga that Matt Taylor’s side are going to have to be patient with. Like many clubs in the lower leagues, Shrewsbury are in a food chain waiting for other deals to be completed before they can get their man, but this could be one that runs down to the wire.

However, this has all the hallmarks of an incredible acquisition. The 18-year-old appears to have the physical stature to mix it in the men’s game, with well rounded qualities which have seen him score twice with his left foot, twice with his right, and three times with his head in the Premier League 2 during the 2022/23 season, leaving him with a genuine chance of being part of the first-team squad.
