Former Peterborough Defender Joins League One Rivals

Stevenage have announced the signing of wing-back Dan Butler from Peterborough United, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.

Stevenage have made their eighth signing since confirming their promotion to League One for the upcoming season. Steve Evan’s side achieved automatic promotion from League Two after finish. The newly promoted club have announced Butler as they look to enhance their squad ahead of their return to the third tier.

Who is Dan Butler?

Butler started his career at Portsmouth as an academy graduate, going on to earn loan moves to Havant & Waterlooville and Aldershot Town. He picked up plenty of experience before going on to make f48 appearances for Portsmouth before sealing a permanent move to Torquay United, signing for League Two’s Newport County a year later.

Making 129 appearances for the Exiles, it could be argued that Butler played a pivotal role as County enjoyed cup runs and battled towards the top of the division. He moved to Peterborough in 2019 and made 135 appearances in all competitions. During Their 2021 promotion winning campaign he started 40 games while picking up six assists as the Posh achieved automatic promotion in 2021.

On the club’s official website, the 28 year old said:

“There’s a lot of good momentum at this club after getting promoted last season.

“The stadium looks good, the training ground is amazing – so it was an easy decision”

Writer’s View

This is a top signing for Stevenage which adds some real quality to an already impressive string of summer additions. With over 100 appearances in and above the division, Butler could be a key figure in Evans’ side as they look to adapt to life in League One. Stevenage seem to be more than ready for life in the third tier.
