Released Rangers midfielder Charlie Lindsay is currently undergoing trials with League One side Derby County, as reported by The Daily Record.
The 19-year-old midfielder is looking to prove himself and earn another professional contract as he moves on from Scottish top-flight side Rangers. And it appears that Paul Warne’s Rams are the side he is set to prove himself to, with it being reported that the Irishman had a host of different appealing options for his future club.
Lindsay reportedly had offers from clubs as high as the Championship but has chosen to roll the dice with the League One club, feeling that they are the clearest path for first-team football opportunities. The midfielder has been successful in his youth career, even training with the Northern Ireland senior squad, after his debut with the under-16 side in 2019, playing four games for his country.
And not just internationally, the youngster has been impressive in Rangers youth setup, in particular, both domestically and continentally. Lindsay made 33 appearances in the Lowland League with the Rangers B team last season, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists. As well as this, he has made 10 appearances in the Uefa Youth League across two seasons, scoring twice in that time. The Irishman can play a forward role as an attacking midfielder, as well as playing the role of a central midfielder, with balanced appearances coming in both roles, 11 in each.
Derby are preparing for a new season in the third tier, the club narrowly missed out on promotion last season and are now free to spend money on players this summer. They are currently bracing themselves for the departure of Jason Knight, who has been linked with numerous clubs in the past few weeks, with Championship side Ipswich Town, who were recently promoted from League One, among his potential suitors. The Rams also lost last season’s top scorer, David McGoldrick, the striker who left Pride Park at the expiration of his contract joined League Two side Notts County.

Derby County look to be landing an extremely talented player if they are to sign Lindsay, it looks like Jason Knight will be heading out the exit door, however, Lindsay could be an ideal replacement for the Rams given his performances at a youth level. However, with the 19-year-old without a senior appearance to his name, this could prove to be a gamble on whether or not he is able to replicate those performances.
