Bradford City could be set to lose the race to bring back defender Romoney Crichlow to the club permanently, with League One Peterborough United opening up talks for his signature, according to Pete O’Rourke from Football Insider.
Crichlow, who is a free agent after being released by Huddersfield Town upon the expiration of his contract with the Championship side, enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Bantams last season, making 41 appearances in all competitions as Bradford fell at the semi-final stage of the playoffs to eventual winners Carlisle United.

Who is Romoney Crichlow?
Primarily a centre-half, Romoney Crichlow made the move up to Huddersfield Town in 2017 after starting his playing career for Enfield Borough. During his time at Huddersfield, Crichlow would be sent out on different loan spells in a search for experience and regular playing time, turning out for the likes of Bradford Park Avenue, Hartlepool United and Welling United.
The defender then made the season-long loan switch to Swindon Town in August 2021, with Crichlow going on to make 18 appearances at The County Ground, scoring one goal as he was recalled from his loan spell in January in which on the same day, he was sent out on loan to Plymouth Argyle.
After only making three appearances for the Pilgrims, Crichlow’s next and final loan spell whilst contracted with the Terriers would see him end up at Bradford City for the 2022/23 season.
During his time at the University of Bradford Stadium, the 24-year-old defender made 41 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring once as Bradford went on to finish sixth in the League Two table, eventually missing out on promotion after falling to Carlisle United in the semi-finals, who went on to beat Stockport County on penalties in the final.
Defences out on top
Peterborough United look to be adding to their defensive ranks ahead of the new season and if they were to get the deal to sign Crichlow over the line, it will give the club a different type of defender than what they currently have.
However, Crichlow might have some work to do to overtake the other centre-halves at the club for a place in the starting eleven, with the likes of Frankie Kent, Josh Knight and Ronnie Edwards proving to be solid options for Posh and a mainstay in the heart of their defence.
For Bradford however, they will also look to be on the lookout to boost their defence as they prepare to fight for promotion to League One again, with Sam Stubbs, Matty Platt and Timi Odusina currently contracted with the Bantams ahead of the new campaign.
From looking at it from the outside, this looks to be a big blow for Bradford City as Romoney Crichlow was highly rated with the Bantams during his loan spell at the club. However, with the season Crichlow has had in which he’s been consistently excellent, although it seemed unlikely anyway, I think it was always going to be difficult for Bradford to keep hold of him permanently and at the moment, that certainly looks the case.
With Peterborough United interested in securing the services of the 24-year-old, if they were to get it over the line, I think it would represent a shrewd piece of business for the League One side as they gear up to fight for promotion again in the upcoming season. He is certainly good enough to make a name for himself and make an impact in League One.
