Following Exeter City’s dramatic 2-2 draw away to Fleetwood Town yesterday afternoon, the club and it’s supporters eagerly await the scan results of Fulham loanee Jay Stansfield.
Exeter needed stoppage time in the second half to draw level against Fleetwood. With Pierce Sweeney converting a late chance from a corner, to rescue a point for the away side. Despite the late comeback and point for the Grecians, fans and club staff alike will be eagerly awaiting the results of scans on Jay Stansfield’s injury.
The forward went down midway through the second half, after appearing to getting his studs caught in the ground.
Stansfield looked to be in some discomfort on the floor, after going down with no one around him, and eventually had to be stretchered off the pitch.
His manager Gary Caldwell had this to say, when talking to Devon Live about the injury.
“It looked awkward the way he went down.”
“We don’t know to what extent he has hurt himself but it didn’t look great and he’s in a bit of pain, but we will see how he is over the next 48 hours”
“He is phenomenal and keeps going, and everyone kept going today and gave everything for the cause. Fingers crossed it’s not too bad, but we will assess it over the coming days”
Praise from the manager and words of hope that it’s just a minor injury, that looked worse than it is.
Exeter captain and goal scorer Sweeney had this to say on the injury.
“He’s a young kid and it reminds me of the Kyle Taylor injury, but we don’t know if it is anywhere near as bad as that. He’s devastated and has tears in his eyes, so it’s up to us to support him and wait for the scan results and hope it is not too bad.”
Kyle Taylor sustained a horrible injury last season, which has already seen him miss the end of last season and unable to feature this season so far. This was the extent of Taylor’s injury.
“Unfortunately he has ruptured his cruciate knee ligament and damaged his medial knee ligament as well as both cartilages on either side, and also damage to the bone head” as shared on the official website at the time.
The Fulham loanee has found the net six times since joining Exeter in the summer, overall he has 14 goal contributions this season.

It’s never nice to see a player go down off the ball with no one around him, those are the ones where you really fear the worst.
Seeing it back it doesn’t look great for the young man, but all we can do is hope that it looks worse than it actually is.
I certainly hope it isn’t as serious as the injury Taylor faced last season, as it would be a real shame to see two exciting youngsters out for such a long period of time.
