Connor Lemonheigh-Evans Nets On Return To Stockport County

Connor Lemonheigh-Evans scored on his return to Stockport County in a 1-1 draw with Salford City yesterday.

The 26-year-old returned to Edgeley Park last week after he was recalled from his loan spell at Vanarama National League side Notts County. He signed for Luke Williams’ side in February and he made five appearances for the Magpies before his recall.

Lemonheigh-Evans gave the Hatters the lead on the six-minute mark after calmly slotting past Alex Cairns. Salford drew level though courtesy of Callum Hendry’s extraordinary strike from outside the box, ensuring the points were shared.

After the draw, Lemonheigh-Evans was delighted to finally score his first goal in Stockport colours.

‘It’s a relief to be honest. I’m delighted to get off the mark, it is April now so it’s about time really.’

The midfielder signed for Stockport at the beginning of the season after a magnificent spell at Torquay United which caught the eye of a number of Football League clubs. During his time at Plainmoor, he made 81 appearances during a two-year spell which saw him net on 11 occasions last season.

Following the result, Stockport remain in play-off contention – sitting in fifth place with 64 points. That point for Neil Wood’s side could prove to be an important one as the season approaches it’s conclusion

The race for promotion in League Two is intensifying, and Stockport will hope Lemonheigh-Evans could help them earn them a place in the English third tier next year.

Lemonheigh-Evans could have been key for Notts County in the run-in but he was recalled to help with Stockport’s promotion push. He showed what he was capable of during his time at Torquay, which subsequently earnt him the move to Stockport.

Stockport could make it back-to-back promotions and they will be looking to return to League One, whether that be through the automatic slots or the play-offs.
