Cheltenham striker Alfie May, is out of contract at the end of the season and with his future up in the air, Peterborough has dismissed interest linking them to the striker, according to the Peterborough Telegraph.
The 29-year-old has continued his fine form from last season with 13 goals so far, taking his tally to 36 goals in League One since the start of last season.
May is coming off the back of a two-goal performance against Posh two weeks ago after reports suggested the League One side was lining up a bid for the Englishmen in the Summer.
Back in 2017, May was given his chance in the Football League with Doncaster, who at the time was managed by current Posh boss Darren Ferguson.
Working his way up from the Isthmian League to League One, the striker has had an inspiring career path and will likely get his pick of teams come the end of the season.
Currently sitting 17th in the league with the Robins, May will likely be in consideration for Player of the Month, with five-goal contributions in the month of March.
As for Peterborough, following relegation from the Championship last season, they sit just outside the playoff places, one point behind Derby County. On a three-game winning streak, things are competitive near the top of the table as we get to the closing months of the season.
Speaking to Peterborough Telegram about the rumour with Ferguson’s former player, Posh’s Director of Football Barry Fry, spoke on the matter.
He said: “He’s not a player that’s been mentioned to me and I don’t expect that to happen because of Alfie’s age.
“We don’t tend to sign strikers that old. He’s a good player who scored two great goals against us, but I suspect, because our gaffer signed him before, some think we would be interested again.
“Anyway we don’t know who our manager will be next season. When we do I will have more idea who we want to try and sign.”

To be fair to Fry he completely shut down the rumour of signing May putting an end to the matter.
Saying it’s because of May’s age and not knowing the future of the manager’s position. It is interesting Peterborough wouldn’t want to add someone with that much talent.
May has shown to be lethal in front of goal at this level and with Wrexham also supposedly interested in his services, I’m sure there will be a host of clubs queueing up for the player if he is to leave Cheltenham in the Summer.
