Bradford City Lodge Official Complaint Regarding Fixture Postponement

It’s understood that Bradford City have made an official complaint to the EFL regarding the fixture postponement of their game against Crewe, which was scheduled for Saturday 25th March 2023 as reported by – Telegraph & Argus

The announcement of the postponement came last Friday (17th March) a little over a week before the game was scheduled to happen due to international call-ups within the Crewe squad.

Crewe had Connor O’Riordan, James Beadle and Lachlan Brook all called up by their respective nations which means they would be unavailable for both the Gillingham game which took place Tuesday (21st March) and the Bradford game which was originally scheduled for this weekend.

Crewe’s away trip to Gillingham went ahead as planned as the game was unable to be rearranged, Crewe end up losing 2-1 against the Gills.

While we are talking about the game against Gillingham, a shout-out must go to Callum Ainley who scored a potential goal of the season contender for Crewe. If you haven’t watched it, then check it out.

So why exactly are Bradford so annoyed at the fixture postponement, which is part and parcel of football at this level?

Well, it’s being reported by Telegraph & Argus that their main gripe with this postponement is down to how late the announcement of the postponement came with City already having sold 1600 tickets for the fixture.

They have also taken issue with the fact Crewe had no issues playing their Tuesday night game against Gillingham due to the inability to postpone so why can’t they do the same for the game that was scheduled this weekend?

This fixture is yet to be rearranged and a new date for the game is expected in due course.

I have to say, I understand the frustration from Bradford and from a fans perspective there’s not much worse than a last-minute fixture postponement.

With 1600 tickets being sold you’d imagine that many fans would have already sorted travel by the club or otherwise to the fixture, all I can say is I’m sure they will be thankful that it’s a fairly local one and not a long away day down South that’s being rearranged.

Although, I do sympathise with City and their fans however, fixture postponement is part and parcel of the game at this level. They aren’t the first to be affected by it and certainly won’t be the last.

However, as a whole, the EFL could potentially try to streamline the process when it comes to fixtures being called off due to international call-ups but they like clubs don’t know who is being called up till the official announcements are made.
