Cheltenham suffered another 4-0 thumping in the space of a week this time at the hands of Portsmouth, making it just one win in their last 10 league games for Wade Elliot’s men. With frustrations growing around the club, fans took to Twitter to express their displeasure at how club has fallen into this poor run of form.

Just four days ago Cheltenham were one game away from a trip to Wembley in the EFL Trophy, however, after a penalty shootout defeat and an awful run of form in the league, the mood around Whaddon Road has soured.

A trip to Portsmouth was on the cards today and it didn’t take long for the home team to assert their dominance. Five minutes in, Ryan Tunnicliffe opened the scoring and by the 26th minute, Pompey had tripled their lead with goals from Michael Jacobs and Ronan Curtis.

Elliot was clearly frustrated with his side’s first-half performance when he made a double substitution at half-time, giving Glen Rea his debut alongside fellow midfielder Liam Sercombe.

The Robins showed signs of promise during periods of the second half, but they were unable to affect the outcome of the game and Louis Thompson extended the lead to four with a long-range strike in injury time.

The result leaves Cheltenham 19th in League One, just two points away from the relegation zone despite playing a game more than 21st Accrington Stanley.

What’s more worrying is the way this side is losing. Cheltenham has now suffered back-to-back 4-0 defeats while taking five points from a possible 30 this calendar year.
