Northampton Town Manager Provides Important Injury Update

Northampton Town manager Jon Brady gave an injury update on his squad’s fitness, with the Cobblers still looking worst for wear, on the club’s website.

Northampton Town are currently sitting in 5th place in League Two, three points away from the automatic spots, despite their squad having been through the wars recently with seven players presently sidelined.

Those players include Ben Fox, Kieron Bowie, Lee Burge, Josh Harrop, Danny Hylton, Akin Odimayo and Ryan Haynes.

Brady stressed the importance of some of the players missing saying: “I’d say four of those players have been main starters for us this season and have made a real difference to us.”

“It’s up to the players who come in to make their own mark but we are still trying to find the right formula.”

Northampton’s form has seen a significant drop in this period, with the promotion-hunting team without a win in four games and just one victory in their last seven matches.

After narrowly missing out on promotion to League One last season, they won’t want to experience that feeling twice, however, Brady gave some more in-depth updates on a few players with the news still not overly positive.

The manager said: “Ben could be out for a length of time. We are still waiting on the surgeon’s opinion but we will find out pretty soon.

“Lee could be close to being back in the squad for the weekend, there is no real time scale on Danny, we are going day by day, and Kieron could still be another three or four weeks.

“Ryan has had a muscle injury and has only just started to get back on the grass and Josh also has a muscle injury.

“Akin could be another four or five weeks.”

Summary

  • Ben Fox – Waiting on the surgeon’s opinion so could be a length of time.
  • Kieron Bowie – Three to four weeks.
  • Lee Burge – Could return for the weekend.
  • Josh Harrop – No update.
  • Danny Hylton – Day today.
  • Akin Odimayo – Four to five weeks.
  • Ryan Haynes – Back training.

Writer’s View

It’s clear Northampton haven’t had the best of luck when it comes to injuries and that seems to really be impacting them on the pitch.

At the end of the day, every team experiences injuries to impactful players, it just depends on how the team reacts from that.

In Northampton’s case, they seem to be struggling more than others, with the last time they scored twice in a game coming on the 28th of January five match days ago.

To be fair to Brady he hasn’t blamed any of the recent poor performances down to the squad’s injury crisis, but I’m sure he has his fingers crossed some of these players can get back on the pitch quicker than expected.
