Stevenage have announced the signing of Accrington Stanley goalkeeper Toby Savin on an emergency loan according to the club’s official website. The League Two side has been forced into action with both Taye Ashby Hammond and Jokkull Andresson out with injuries.

High flying Stevenage turned their attention to Stanley keeper Toby Savin, who has found himself in fine form recently for Accrington, including a man of the match performance against Premier League Leeds United.
However, he will only be at Stevenage on a seven-day loan before returning to his parent club. The EFL allows such loans in circumstances beyond the club’s control, one notable example is Lincoln City’s use of Joe Bursik in their play off semi final defeat of Sunderland.
Toby is only 22 years old, but he has played in three League One seasons now and his experience is beyond his years. He has played frequently this season for Accrington, but recently seems to have fallen out of favour as Lukas Bornhøft Jensen has taken over the number one spot for Accrington.
Stevenage do still have 22-year-old goalkeeper Adam Przybek, who has had to develop quicker than expected due to the severe injury situation at the club. Albeit Savin is likely to start for Stevenage in Saturday’s away trip to Stockport.

A very smart signing by Stevenage. Although it’s only for a seven-day period, I expect him to come straight into the side for Saturday’s trip to Stockport and have an influence on the side.
As I mentioned, he may only be 22 years old, but his experience in League One will provide his defenders with confidence that they have a quality goalkeeper behind them.
