Plymouth Argyle fans have been reacting to the latest statement from their owner, Simon Hallett.
The Pilgrims are assumed to have made an immediate return the League One this season under the stewardship of Ryan Lowe, but also have owner Hallett to thank for helping keep them afloat. He’s pledged one more cash injection to help sustain the club through the current crisis, although he has also revealed it will be the last one he puts in.
“My role since becoming Argyle’s owner has been to provide the money to invest in our future,” he said in his statement published on the club’s site.
“The longer this virus goes on, the more obvious it is that I have to do more to protect that long-term future. The best way to do that, while keeping options open, is to put cash in the bank.
“I will therefore be injecting yet another substantial amount into the club in the next few weeks. This cash will be used to protect Argyle from some of the bad financial outcomes that we think may happen in the absence of financial support for EFL clubs from some other party.
“The cash that I am putting in this time will, however, be the last such injection from me. We are already thinking about further ways to reduce our cost base to overcome the short-term difficulties, and, once this crisis is over, we will need to be more reliant on the investments we’ve already made to generate the resources needed to achieve our longer-term goals.”
The lifelong-Plymouth fan initially invested £500,000 into the Home Park outfit, as well as inheriting £650,000 of debt when he first joined the board in 2016. He has since loaned the club £4m, which has now been written off, as well as putting in £1.5m to help complete work on the club’s new Mayflower Stand in November last year.
His continued benevolence is music to the ears of these supporters, who are thankful for their owner’s commitment to the club during these uncertain times.
There are so many flaws in society and the across the world at present, however reading the Chairman’s update left me with goosebumps. What a well delivered and perfect update to the Green Army! Thank you Mr Chairman and I’ll be doing all I can to support the club in the future!

In all my years I have never been more impressed by this man. He is a highly respected businessman who not only has a head for business but has a heart to go with it. He must be suffering because of the pandemic yet he is prepared to do this. Do we realise how lucky we are.

Surely one of the best chairman’s in football, clear and precise vision and a fan at heart… whilst being sensible. I’m sure other clubs clubs could learn a thing or two from argyle now! And I hope everyone does there but by waiving the season ticket refunds!!
